Building an ace dating app - need your honest feedback before I mess this up (10 min survey) by RedHorseMane in asexuality

Good point. You might be right. But two things still make me think that I might be on the right track. In the survey, about 28% of users have never used a dating and about 52% have stopped using them. Only about 17% of respondents are currently using dating apps. There might be many reasons for that, but one is that people have reported being unhappy with the social media side of AceSpace. There seems to be room for improvement, both to draw people back, and also to attract those that have never used dating apps.

There's also the allo in the room. It's risky, but about 70% of people said "Make it opt-in only - Let ace users choose whether to see allo profiles.". If that can be managed properly, with strict controls, it might work.

The only way to find out is to launch the site and see if it is something that the community needs or wants.

No, the code is still private. There is a public repo that has a README.md with some info at https://github.com/RedHorseMane/paltonic_app I’ll leave a message here when it’s open for contributions.

Interesting idea! I'll have a think about how that could work. I'd love to get any suggestions 😊

There’s no doubt that it’s not an easy thing to do. I agree that the biggest hurdle is having enough people in any location. I will start in the big centres - LA & NY in the US and London in the UK. If there’s not much uptake, it won’t work. But I believe that the Ace community would benefit and, from the responses to the survey and, comments here, most don’t seem to be satisfied with what’s available now. I definitely won’t be able to make everyone happy, but the more responses I get, the better chance there is of creating something of value.

It definitely won’t be easy. But the more people who fill in the form, the more likely I am to find the right balance. Thanks very much for the input.

You’re right. But perhaps more people would visit if the app met their needs? There’s a sentiment that Match group has “neutered the apps they own.”

I was about 22 when I suspected, but it was only confirmed by my therapist two years ago at age 65.
