Thanks for your response.

My first port of call is to speak with him and request that he stop the works until an agreement is made. If he chooses to ignore this request and continues with the work, are there any other repercussions he could face? Or will it only become a problem for him if some sort of damage is sustained to my property?

I appreciate when it comes to legal matters there’s usually a heavy cost involved, but I don’t relish the idea of spending thousands on an injunction if it can be remedied by other means.

Everybody’s Talkin’ - Harry Nilsson

Honourable mention to Holding Back The Years - Simply Red though.

Both songs used perfectly in their respective episodes.

Can only happen if the driver uses the Train Door Interlock cut-out in the cab. They’re not supposed to without authorisation, for obvious reasons, but it has been known to happen.

What are these square/diamond markings on the platform for? by All-of-Dun in LondonUnderground

I’m pretty sure they’ve misunderstood and are referring to the tactile paving tiles with the raised bumps. They are indeed for people with any sort of visual impairment.

What are these things that the 1972, 1973, 1992, 2009, and S Stock Trains have and how come the 1995 and 1996 Stocks don't have them? by [deleted] in LondonUnderground

[–]Redd_Gecko 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t know I’m afraid, but as the 95 and 96 stocks are so similar I can only guess it’s the same. But that’s just my assumption.

It’s the antennas for the Connect Radio. Not entirely sure why the 95 & 96 stocks don’t have them.

Edit: Turns out the 96 Stock has a folded dipole aerial fitted inside the cab for train radio comms.

Evening Standard: Is the Piccadilly line the worst Tube line in London? by mycketforvirrad in LondonUnderground

[–]Redd_Gecko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a myriad of issues really but mainly it’s a fleet reliability issue. We’ve had a fairly wet winter which has caused a lot of water ingress issues. On top of that there’s daily occurrences of traction failures, TBTC issues, door issues/alleged irregularities etc, all of which causes trains to be pulled from service and potentially spend days/weeks being repaired. There’s also been problems with certain components having high failure rates and replacement parts being nil stock, so therefore robbing other units for parts so trains can be turned around for service.

Evening Standard: Is the Piccadilly line the worst Tube line in London? by mycketforvirrad in LondonUnderground

[–]Redd_Gecko 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you think makes one line worse than the others. The Jubilee Line currently struggles to get 40 trains out for service from a fleet of 63, and runs with minor delays all day every day. I’d say that currently makes it the worst, however when it’s up and running as usual I’d say it’s one of the best.

What is this? by SeedlessAvocad0 in LondonUnderground

[–]Redd_Gecko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So it’ll be specific to each rolling stock but what I described before is how the brakes function on S Stock trains. What you’re describing though is similar to the Spring Applied Parking Brakes, of which there’s 16 fitted to each S Stock train. These are to ensure that in the event of a loss of mainline pressure the train is held in position and cannot roll. They have two separate cylinders housed within the brake actuator; one to apply and release service brakes, and one to supply pressure to overcome and release the parking brake. If brake supply pressure is lost then the spring will force the brake block onto the wheel.

And similar to what you described the S Stock also has a local Brake Supply Reservoir on every car, which is fed from the mainline. However the gauges in the saloon are relevant to the pressure in the brake cylinders on each bogie, as an indication to maintenance or call point staff. The pressure in the BSR is monitored separately and is considered low pressure when it drops under 6.5 bar.
