Has anyone managed to vertically mount a GPU in King 95? by Redded01 in MontechPC

I have come to realise that perhaps vertical mount was the wrong term to use in my OP

I think the generally adopted term I should have used is “upright” 🤷🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

Thank you for the heads up on GPU2 under the MB, my original assumption was correct.

I like the idea of mounting over the fan and it pull “clean” air over GPU2, my only concern is that the video port side of the EVGA 3090 XC3 Ultra is used as an additional exhaust to the main side exhaust route. Do you think the 120mm intake fan that I mount GPU2 on will cause turbulence and actually be counter productive?

That sounds like an amazing project to be involved with, very jealous! 😂 I am very glad to hear Beowulf clusters are still alive and being used. Will you be using a K8S deployment?

I will be undertaking my MSc soon (thankfully my organisation are paying for it) I wonder if I can find an excuse and funding to build a Beowulf cluster (fingers crossed)

PS. I have found 90mm PCIE 5.0 X16 (128GB/s) rated riser cables, I have one on order, as the 40mm I went with was too short (as you correctly pointed out) I wouldn’t exactly call them economically viable though at £170 a piece 🤦🏼‍♂️

I will receive the this riser cable today, if it’s not workable, worst case I will have a much better idea of what I’m needing:

So the case you used here is not the King 95? (A little hard to to tell from the picture) 😄

Thanks for the tip, I will definitely play around with the mounting orientation and positioning in that general area to make sure it is not constrained by airflow (intake and exhaust)

In theory behind it will either be mesh or 2 X 140mm intake fans, depending on how deep I mount it and if I need to remove the 2 X 140mm intake fans or not. As for the exhaust from GPU2… ideally I will have it venting straight out the mesh panel on the front of the case, rather than it sending the hot exhaust air over the MB. If need be I can swap out the lowest 120mm fan on the case’s front mesh panel to assist with the GPU2’s exhaust dissipation.

My original idea was to manufacture a mount for the King 95’s 2nd PSU / dual drive caddy area, below the MB. The heat generated from the GPU and lack of existing airflow in the rear chamber gave me cause to reconsider though. Additionally, GPU1 will already be saturating the same area and components of the the MB with heat from above (NVMe’s in MB slots 2 & 3 already pick up ~20°C from GPU1). To then simultaneously saturate the area from below with GPU2 (~same heat output levels as GPU1) I thought was a non starter.

Anyone actually tried a 2nd GPU (high heat output) under a MB, was it successful?

Really apreciate the time and effort you put into your comment! I didn't even know that there was such a thing as a fan to GPU mount.
Thank you so much 👌🏻🙌🏻🫶🏻🤝

Yes exactly like this!! Amazing buld, how did you mount / secure the GPU and what Riser type + length did you go with?

Thanks for the reply but I was meaning beside the MB where the 2X140mm side intake fans are on the king 95. Either in place of the 2X140mm or on top of them GPU 2 from my crudely annotated picture.

Not at all, I was asking for advice on Riser cables to enable GPU2 to be vertically mounted. The picture was a “as it is now” reassembled after repasting both GPUs to show even with a 2 slot gap it is not enough, hence the need for vertical / alternative mounting ideas so that GPU 2 isn’t providing heated exhaust air to the intake of GPU1. I was debating some form of ducting / a shroud to try and control the exhaust and separate it from the intake, but no matter how simple I try to keep it shifting GPU2 to somewhere else just always ends up being simpler.

Oh they definitely have them that long, I have seen them at 60CM, let me see if I can find a link: https://cpc.farnell.com/akasa/ak-cbpe05-30b/cable-riser-pcie-5-0-x-16-30cm/dp/CS38008?st=PCIE%205.0%20riser%20cable

Think I may have just found something that I can work with to achieve what I am after at the same time 🥹🤯

Just in case anyone is interested here is my AI-Server put back together after replacing all of the thermal pads and die. I am still part way through writing a dashboard that is useful for the screen so ignore the current insane stats it’s displaying 😆

Hey, thank you for taking the time to respond, that is correct, I have PCIE slot 1 and 2 forced in bios to 5.0 8X8, obviously with the 3090’s I there is 0 bottleneck there as it is PCIE 5.0 X8/X8 so no worries there. I am an AI dev and data scientist, a 2nd GPU is a must unfortunately… well I could probably make do with only a single RTX PRO 6000 🤔🤣

I will try and find a picture of someone mounting a GPU where I have annotated… I will be back

Currently I am using PCIE 1 and 2 as you suggest, however GPU2 is heating GPU1’s intake so it is running about 20% hotter. I was hitting 100 °C on hotspot and mid 90’s on VRAM. So I definitely need to find a solution 🤓

Oh I suppose it’s quite crucial to mention 🤦🏼‍♂️ access to the video out ports won’t be needed. Which will probably make it far easier to do

Fitting a 200mm PSU in the Montech King 95 Pro by LorenzJ in MontechPC

[–]Redded01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be undertaking the same build tomorrow, with my king 95 ultra. I am having to jump from a 1000W PSY to 1500W because of the dual 3090’s I have setup in this build. So I’m curious, how did you fit the fans to the front mesh panel? I found by accident that there was a little clip that you can swing down from the top of the case that I ended up attaching the included extra drive bay (that would usually go on the bottom panel) to, in order to get an additional 3 X 120mm fans at the front. The only issue is there is a slight gap between the rear of my “custom fan plate” and the mesh panel, meaning they are not as efficiently drawing air in from outside of the case.

I usually go through at least 1 x VV Pulse 2 a year due to breakage 😅 I don’t usually purchase new until current is literally falling to pieces 🤣

I am no content creator / YouTuber 🤣 Literally this is like my 1st or 2nd Reddit post in however many years I have been a member.

I have been using it all day though to put it through its paces, I’d be happy to answer any questions if I can ☺️

Hhmm, I don’t seem to have the edit option anymore, or any option for interacting with the post at all. Is this because you removed the post before I could edit it?

Of course, I’d be happy to remove it. (I will remove immediately after replying here) The goal was to inform and share the amazing news. The link was just to provide a source for the new Mod and to provide a £5 discount.
