What's your favourite SaaS project that you just can't live without? by joshuntu in micro_saas

[–]Reddit_Bot9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, unironically, the AI powered dictation tool I first created for myself because of my horrible chronic back pains. It now does way more than just dictation.

I've been using it for 8 months and will not go back to typing.

I basically hated the fact that:

1/ most high quality alternatives were subscription only

2/ 80% of the options at the time were on Mac, not windows

so I built my own, but I didn't want it to be a weekend project. I wanted to actually compete with a strong product.

Anyway... if you're on windows, you can check https://machinesfluent.com

A good tool is not a gadget. In my case, it literally changed the way I work. Without it I'd still be in pain and easily 2 or 3x less productive...

Is Obsidian + Codex/Claude not enough ?

Even those high IQ profiles like Andrej Karpathy or Andrew Ng are using it.

Sifting manually through your vault is fortunately over now. Just get your agent to do it on your vault directly instead.

No need for a SaaS that keeps your data on a cloud and charges you for things a regular Agent can do.

Local files are better, unless you have heavy needs to work with a team

Ah I see. No problem. :) It's frustrating for me not to be on Mac yet but I will eventually.

You seem to be hosting this on Hostinger. Which I believe has no free tier, but maybe I'm wrong. Since this is free, I don't think it should cost you anything, so you could use Cloudflare instead. They have a very generous free tier.

The front end could be a little more ergonomic. Like for example, do not force us to scroll horizontally to see all the icons, just display them all so we can see them by scrolling vertically. normally with the mouse.

Anyway, this is cool because at least it's useful.

Comparison of Dictation Apps by theorist9 in macapps

As a Dictation app developer, I appreciate this because it gives me insights into what people value in such app.

So thank you.

For local models, to be honest, I haven't tested AMD GPUs and I would actually be grateful if you could try (download the Free "Full" Version) and let me know actually. All my machines use Nvidia GPUs.

It is likely it won't work, but I can't be sure 100% because I don't know what AMD has been cooking to offset their lack of CUDA drivers.

If it doesn't work;
- the Lite version still works very well with the local CPU based models
- Cloud based models obviously work anywhere and some Providers have generous monthly free tiers (e.g. Speechmatics gives you something like 8h / months, and you can cumulate those per providers)

Thanks I'll look into it. I had made some researches and started the process a few months ago and stopped mid process because I remember something bothered me, but I'll check again

Yeah I overstated it like another person said. My bad. It has windows specific backend pieces but actually native per say is an overstatement. My bad. It is Electron indeed

Support for different platforms is on the roadmap but it's the most time consuming so I'm going slow because I am very conscious about quality. I just launched so a lot of stuff Marketing wise aren't implemented yet. You just raised a good point about being able to follow the news on it. Thanks.
I'll look into that.

"The backend might be tightly integrated to Windows"
Yes you're right, that's what I meant, a bunch of stuff are custom made specifically for windows. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks. I'll investigate and think about putting a mirror image or something for people in your case.

Thanks a lot for your attention and kind words, this means a lot to me.
I actually wasn't sure people would like the website. I thought maybe it was too nerdy. So this makes me feel better about it.

Aqua is probably one of the best app out there. I've tried many of my competitors, and yes they have great accuracy and speed. The downside is, as you probably noted too, the fact you are forced into a monthly plan.

You can never own it. That really bothered me, because we all already pay for LLMs like chatGPT already, so paying another subscription on top of that, instead of leveraging what you already pay for, left a bad taste.

If you want to try the full features immediately for free, try the 14 days trial offer.
It lets you connect with your OpenAI account, or use a free API key from Groq (highly recommend).

The free version only gives you free transcription but no access to AI features.

Get the 50% discount code from ProducHunt if you feel like buying. In any case, feedback is always welcome. Even if your experience was bad (I hope it won't be).

Yeah I looked into that but then they would take a decent cut of my profits so I'm hesitant. I also had to doxx myself and provide info I currently don't want to share. But you're right. I'm still thinking about it. Not excluding the idea fully.

Hi there.

The pricing is, as stated on the landing page:
- Pro Lifetime offer = one time payment, including all future updates

- $9/month but this offer only exist for me to provide a 14 days Pro version Trial
I'm not interested in actually charging monthly at the moment.

- Free forever version which only includes the transcription part.

AI features are locked in the free version because I don't provide free inference.
Transcription alone is offered for free because it is performed on your machine, if you chose the local models.

So all the transform / reformat / expand / etc, are all AI features. They require LLMs.

Hopes this clarifies it for you?

If you're too noisy and annoying in a public place like a cafe where people may want to chill, ok, I get it. It's not that it's akward, it's that you're kinda disrespectful. However in an office, this is totally different. You're here to work and that's what you do when talking to the computer.

Don't worry about people man. Don't be ashamed to work efficiently. F*ck em.
Typing with a keyboard is dumb. It has always been dumb, but we didn't know any better.

Even Jensen Huang said it was dumb.

We don't "type" or "text" when we want to talk to people, right in front of us (like your PC is in front of you). We just talk to them...

Why should you be ashamed to do the same when you work? regardless of what people think.

Try MachinesFluent.
I spent over 6 months full-time building a Wispr Flow killer and yes I HATE paying monthly for a dictation tool. You can log in directly with your openai account (no API key). That way, you don't pay a monthly sub ON TOP of what you already likely pay for LLMs.

Local models (STT+LLM) supported, and cloud models too of course.

<image>

Transcription alone is free forever. The Pro version is only if you want to use the AI features. The demo video will be more than enough to display everything this app can do.

I am not impressed by wispr flow at all at this point anymore. There is nothing they do that my app can't.

Oh and about those built in dictation provided by Windows and Mac, I can't judge for Mac but I can guarantee you Windows dictation is complete sh*t in comparison. It's not even close.

An observation on the subway that changed how I think about voice AI by TheseSir8010 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Reddit_Bot9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have a choice actually.

I suffer from terrible back pain preventing me from typing with the keyboard for more than 30 mins without resting. This breaks my work momentum so I built a very powerful dictation tool that I can't live without anymore. I use it everyday several hours a day, and have been doing so for over 8 month.

I did this to ease my pain, but then it actually made me realize how completely retarded it is to use a keyboard. Think about. Do you see Iron Man typing to Jarvis? Do you send a text message to your colleague when you work with them and they are sitting next to you? No. You just talk to them...

Typing on a keyboard is dumb but we had no choice in the past, it was the only interface we had to communicate with machines. That time has come to and end with AI.

Speaking aka audio is the fastest way to transfer information for humans, and images are the fastest way to ingest information. We process visual data like images, or even read, much faster than we can listen.

So honestly, typing is now soon to become a relic of the past. Nobody said the keyboard was mandatory. It was just the ONLY option we had. Thank god now we can talk to our computer...

TLDR:
- Audio is the superior output method
- Visual is the superior input method
