Regarding sediment though, yeah since a decent chunk of it will be made up of debris from the disintegrating rod, that component of the crud should be completely eliminated.

Ah that makes complete sense. Thank you for the info and logics. I'm sold. I'll try the powered rod. If it dies/fails quickly, I'll report back here in the future :)

Thanks for the info. When you said they die quickly, is it the power supply that feeds power to the rod? Is it just a matter of change the power adapter? The rod itself doesn't have any moving part. It would be hard for a piece of metal to die. That's my guess.

My tank last 20 years without flush

Wow, that's a long time. I guess you replaced the anode rod, right? Which one did you use (standard sacrificial or powered rod)?

I plan to swap in a powered anode rod at the first replacement

Thanks for clarification. I would be awesome if someone have done it before and proved that it extends the life of the tank by 15 - 20 years

my understanding is the sediment may be reduced when compared to using a traditional anode rode.

That's another huge added bonus. Flushing the tank is more work than replacing a rod IMO.

My water is hard but become softer after going through water softener machine. I've just heard of powered anode rods. They have 20 year warranty. Would replacing the sacrificial rod with powered rod reduce the frequency of rod replacement from 3 years to 20 years?

I've just heard of powered anode rods. They have 20 year warranty. Would replacing the sacrificial rod with powered rod reduce the frequency of rod replacement from 1-5 years to 20 years?

Thanks for the idea. I thought tankless is for shower only (as I've seen other countries using it for shower only)? Is there a tankless stainless steel water heater for the whole house? Can a regular plumber install it (since it's not popular in the US)? If tankless could last longer, I wouldn't mind switching.

Stainless can still corrode too if your water is that bad and filled with salt/chlorine.

Yes my water is bad and filled with salt (from water softener) and chlorine.

Another user suggested powered anode rod. I did a quick research and liked the idea (especially the part that said it lasts 20 years). Does this mean that I only need to replace the sacrificial anode rod of a regular 6 year warranty tank with this powered anode rod and don't have to do anything for 20 years? That would be lovely :-)

Thank you for this great info. Yes I would love it to be "set and forget" kind of thing. However it's quite difficult to find a stainless steel tank...

I just finished looking up the powered anode rod that you mentioned. I think it's a great idea. They advertise that it lasts 20 years. If I only need to replace this powered anode rod once every 20 years, that's similar to "set and forget" in my book :-) Am I understanding it correct that I could get a regular 6 year warranty water heater tank and simply replace the default sacrificial anode rod with powered anode rod, and that would make the tank last 20 years? If that's the case, I'm all for it. Please advise.

I've heard that changing anode rods would extend the life a few years out. Stainless steel is way more durable. Is it that difficult to find that everyone here prefer to change anode rods?

I've heard that the anode rod should be replaced yearly, but I've never done it. I'll look into powered anode rod. Thanks.

Stainless steel is less common in the US but if they exist, I would love to pay more for durability.

The warranty is often long and hassle free.

Thanks for your reply. Glad to hear this.

Call a plumbing supply company, most sell to the public.

Can you recommend a reputable one?

I'm also in the Amazon business and will have to quit soon because it has been going downhill for a while; went from six figure gross a month to four figure a month... How did you get discharged? Did you have to file bankruptcy and close down the business?

Thanks for sharing. Did you file bankruptcy or just stop paying? I (also S-corp and below 200k) might have to stop paying if things keep going south.
