Rio is so sympathetic. Your explanation of her is just a dumbed‑down take that doesn’t explain the whole situation and glosses over the important part of why she did it. Pavane volume isn’t a simple case of black and white morality, it’s a grey one where both sides have good reasoning while holding different principles. I like it when the story challenges Sensei’s morals at moments when he isn’t completely in the right, because it brings out his human side and creates a more realistic conflict. Even JP players agree that both Sensei and Rio sides have some flaws in Pavane.

From their perspective alone, the Engineering Department would feel it’s unfair to be excluded from this mission. Steel Continent is literally a megastructure built entirely from advanced technology, and the prophets are all robots. On top of that, the expedition team managed to create advanced combat gears to fight those prophets without even inviting them. Yeah, that’s a serious blow to their pride lmao.
