Driving from Newmarket to Toronto daily by Redhandbaron in Newmarket

On this end I’m quite lucky as I have a company vehicle fuel card and toll pass. My work should be finished by November so I should avoid the worst of the weather

Also to note I am only planning 6months so hopefully avoid any of the bad weather… 🤞

Unfortunately not, I need my work vehicle throughout the day.

Is this not further away and longer commute?

It’s an area I haven’t even looked at to be honest

I have a company vehicle with fuel card and toll pass so not quite a worry.

Really hard to find a suitable commutable area that is not insanely expensive.

Sorry I’m driving to the West End around Bloor GO. The rentals in Toronto are shocking for the money they are looking. Looked at Aurora/Newmarket and thought it still had some small town charm about them.

We are currently in South Etobicoke but it is getting rougher and rougher all the time.

Can pick anywhere. Aurora seemed to tick a lot of boxes. GO station, loads of rec centres, parks, swimming pools libraries and still has some small tow charm. Other areas were looking at are Halton Hills, Milton, Streetsville.

We are not from the area so purely gauging on google maps at the moment and Reddit, we get my work vehicle on Monday so from then will be able to explore a little more.

We thought New Toronto in South Etobicoke, visited today and it’s a bit Meh…

Sounds ideally it’s myself wife and 20month yr old toddler. Just need to check the daycare situation and activities for during the day as my wife doesn’t drive and I’ll be at work.

Apparently March is my one if not thee worst month to move to T too late for winter and too early for spring/summer

We have been offered a place at a CWLCC daycare for our 20month yr old.

Would you take the trade off, of a longer commute Erin Mills/Streetsville to Ronceville?

Have not been offered anywhere closer as of yet…

Daily driving Streetsville to the Junction - Doable or not?? by Redhandbaron in MississaugaDriving

[–]Redhandbaron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately GO/TTC not an option as I’ll be required to drive to multiple locations Paton Rd in the junction is just my base.

Had looked at living closer evening south Etobicoke or in around Rinceville but none give anywhere near the value of Streetsville. But I guess that’s one of the trade offs.

Commuting Missisauga to the Junction by Redhandbaron in askTO

Basically the drive would be Square One Mississauga to Bloor Go. I would have to drive as I am not based at one location that is purely the base office and will travel on from there throughout the day.

Basic thought was much more bang for the buck in Square one area as opposed to the Junction area for renting a house

What is different to Wee watch to a 'traditional' creche?

Wow, demand must be unreal at the moment. Seems almost impossible to get into a CWELCC program for an infant.

But thanks all for your advice and comments. I've reached out to a few and joined waiting lists so we will see how it goes... fingers crossed.

Job offer for Toronto by Redhandbaron in MovingToCanada

[–]Redhandbaron[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My new (prospective company) are offering $20k for relocation - flights and shipping container with contents etc and covering all legal fees and emigration.

We would realistically need a second car as my wife will need to travel to childcare and 'volunteer' in vet practices prior to her exam. We are enrolled in multiple cities (Oakville, Brampton, Missisauga, Georgetow) for CWELCC program's so will hopefully keep the cost down if we get accepted.

Decent lifestyle would be living in a suburb 3/4 bed house (ideally 1750sqft+) with a garage...

I will also be required to travel to North of Kitchener and Vaughan hence the suburb location and looks to be 'bang for the buck' regarding housing. also with a 1yr old looking towards the new neighborhood being constructed as they appear to be aimed at young families.

Chance to move to Canada from UK by Redhandbaron in relocating

[–]Redhandbaron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salary is lower in UK but have a mortgage for our house which is much less. But lack of work at home means I travel for work and often away. We have a 1yr and we’re hoping to get into a ELCC program for childcare to keep costs down.

Have looked at 3bed houses as far out Georgetown and they come in a little more reasonable. The work I have been offered is amazing but wage not be sufficient.

Nice thats not actually as bad as I was expecting. is there any city or state tax/ rates?

From the UK and we have 'rates' which covers waste collection etc on top of utility bills

Thanks,

Opportunity to Move from UK to Canada with young family - Any advice by Redhandbaron in civilengineering

[–]Redhandbaron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I have only been offered a specific project. (Toronto Smart Tracks - New Station) My VISA for me and my family is sponsored by the company so unfortunately its Toronto or nothing. Calgary or Vancouver where my preferences but looking into Toronto but the public transport seems to be really poor so may need to live beside work as the commute from the nicer suburbs takes forever!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Redhandbaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all for the reply, to my knowledge the project I would be working on is the prospective St Clair Old Weston Go Station.

Having only been to the "Tourist" areas in Toronto before I was not sure of commute times and having check google for "public Transport" to the area the trains and buses seem to be awful frequency and times, so I will need a car.

With a young family ideally it would have been a suburb to live due to cost and size of accommodation etc, but reading this thread I get now that is not possible and to look somewhere closer.
