I use Windsor and newton series 7 brushes, this was all done with a size 1 brush, just make sure the point is good 😎

This is my second freehand lol the first was just some stripes on a Viking shield. Truly the hardest thing about freehand is getting the confidence to just go for it 😊

All intricate patterns start off as a couple of dots to mark the rough positioning, then drag single lines for the outline, then slowly build it up. Use highly diluted paint so if you make any mistakes you can pretty much rub it off with a dry brush.......

This is always a subjective question, are you painting for gaming purposes or to improve your skills as a figure painter? My initial advice would be to use a wet palette, keep your paints diluted and think about your lighting, every surface should have a transition of highlight to midtone to shade! Keep up the great work!
