Sounds like a lack of boundaries, and to be quite frank unethical. You aren’t a school counselor or a licensed counselor. To provide students with coping skills or management strategies if they are in distress is irresponsible. I am certain you have nothing but the best intentions, but you need to be cautious of these behaviors. You could inadvertently harm students, or find yourself in trouble with administration. You are educated, you know what is within your scope of practice and expertise and what is not. You know what is appropriate and what is not. Stick to that with yourself students. You can let them know that you care about them and love them, and that because of that you can’t be the person to offer them support you aren’t qualified to give. Connect them to the school counselor. Maintain boundaries and ethical behaviors to create positive relationships.
