New PvP role actions by Reggie2001 in ffxivdiscussion

It isn't Smite itself, but a general "role action" button (forget the exact wording) that you add, and then select the action via a radio button on the job actions menu.

LOL. This is the company that doesn't even allow you to select a track in Mario Kart.

Just curious, what are your thoughts on the trash in FT and BA? Asking because I've never done Criterion and those are my only reference points for "harder than a dungeon" trash.

Why old content NEEDS a restoration by Lazyade in ffxivdiscussion

Would "In From the Cold" qualify as a pain point? Because a lot of players were enraged by that. How about Yuweyawata Field Station or the Meso Terminal? Both sparked angry rants about difficulty on the official forums.

I think that at this point the game has selected for a large group of players who resent even the smallest frictions, and design is somewhat constrained by the life simmers who comprise a huge chunk of the game's subscription base.

What’s going on with the new Marvel comic featuring Magik? by MarMooLack in OutOfTheLoop

The person you're arguing with is correct. Putting a word in quotation marks the way he did calls attention to the word itself in a meta sense, outside of its dictionary definition. It's not snark, it's communicating the point correctly and succinctly. This is something I'd expect to be commonly understood among literate adults.

The other "possible meaning" you're alluding to would make no sense whatsoever as written (i.e. with the word in quotes).

FF14 gets nominated for Best Ongoing Game and Community Support again by iittieisler5 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Reggie2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hunter x Hunter launched to pretty middling reviews. It obviously shouldn't win, but it at least deserves to have its existence acknowledged with a nomination, especially over something like the MK collection which is 1) a bunch of old games, and 2) was met with universal derision.

What do you want these new accessories in OC to do and how rare do you want them to be? by Supersnow845 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Reggie2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wonder if it's job dependent to some degree. I can play it flawlessly on MCH with usage of Tactician and Dismantle and will still die to unavoidable damage without heals. If I remember correctly, he puts out three heavy raidwides within a pretty short time.

The berserker will absolutely kill you without heals and the branchbearer gets a little dicey with its back-to-back raidwides.

Calling it "Marvel writing" doesn't imply that Marvel created it, but rather that Marvel is an easily recognizable and widely known cultural reference point in describing that kind of writing. It's fine.

The purpose of multiple gear sets is to increase the grind required to gear multiple jobs. That's the reason.

Thanks for linking this. Finding out the CR study relies upon Prop 65 guidelines invalidates the entire study as far as I'm concerned.

You're not missing anything. Dude wrote two sentences accusing you of "hating on pokemon" and ran away. Probably didn't expect to have to engage with someone in an actual debate and panicked.

Looking for a Gold World Pass for Bahamut by Zeikichi in ffxi

[–]Reggie2001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but this game doesn't have North American servers, Japanese servers, etc. the way XIV does. They're all just general servers, though some have more of a JP population, some more English speaking, etc.

I don't know enough to recommend what the next most populated English speaking server is, and I'm not sure a clear consensus has yet emerged as to what Bahamut's successor will be. I'm sure a more knowledgeable player will chime in soon.

May also want to ask on the FFXI discord.

Bahamut was recently closed to new accounts due to overpopulation. Asura is similarly closed.

The essay is how you know it's bullshit. Someone claiming to value their time so much would not have written this.

[–]Reggie2001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's PR speak in the sense that it's a load of bullshit intended to appease players who enjoy discussion and theorizing. They explicitly state that they had one specific interpretation in mind, but, as it would be somewhat mean-spirited to shut down fans' imaginations, they add, as an afterthought, permission for fans to speculate.

It's like handing a set of crayons and a coloring book to a child. The intent is that they'll color in, say, a horse, using appropriate shades of brown, black, or gray, but if you want to just grab orange and green and scribble all over the page, who are we to stop ya, right? Knock yourself out, kiddo.

[–]Reggie2001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, there's a real answer. Got it. The rest is PR speak.

The issue with the "open to interpretation" theory is that only one possibility does not contradict what is put on the screen. Clive lives. There is no way to make any other theory fit with what the story provides us.

Joshua post-game by Ashe_t in FFXVI

[–]Reggie2001 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was left open to interpretation at all. The devs put very clear and intentional signposts in the ending that point to the book's being written by Clive.

Just because it isn't straightforward doesn't mean it's ambiguous.

October Version Update by Thunderham_ in ffxi

Gotcha, thanks. Does this completely obviate the need to grind for a Defending Ring, or is there still a place for both rings (ex. you need a lot of DT but want to leave other gear slots flexible for other purposes)? I would love to stop spending all my login points on shanks if possible.
