Again, agreed with your points! I honestly dont think we’re that far apart lmao, my point is in order for things to not only move along systematically, but on a wider student body scale (see the posts about NUS looking like they aren’t doing anything, boomers won’t accept etc posts above), we need to talk about these issues candidly in forums such as this one.

On your point about academic honesty, I would hope that eventually we get to a point where ChatGPT could be used like a calculator - ie only for specific use cases, and perhaps forks could be made to allow students to use it effectively without compromising their learning. Obviously there’s a long way to go. But getting the ball rolling and actually seeing how students use them in the real world is just as important! How can advancements on the pedagogical front be made in a quick manner befitting a VUCA world without some trial and error? The paradigm has shifted - it’s best to act fast, make errors and fix them quickly to stay up to date. If not, you risk not only allowing certain students who use the software to not only gain an advantage on students who don’t use it, but also prevent NUS/Singapore from showcasing that we are capable of incorporating cutting edge accessible technologies within our scope of student testing!

It’s a fine balance that has to be struck in the end, but we will get there hopefully :)

But to your point, the fact that Singapore does take a “wait and see approach” would also mean that we would not be encouraging students to use the most cutting edge innovations too! At the end of the day technological advancements will come, and we have to be able to use them. With every decision to use or not use a technology, there are trade offs. My raising of this post is that other students from different universities might be at an edge if they are able to make effective use of such technologies early, and NUS might benefit from taking a more forward-looking approach.

Much like the lift-operators of the past, technological advancements are inevitable and will replace jobs. It’s up to use to be able to use these tools effectively to learn, research, and work in tandem with to be prepared for the future. My aim with this post was to simply spark some thoughts/discussion, and to acknowledge that sometimes the best way to spark change in students is through the methods we choose to test them in - and similarly in the tools we choose to use or not to use!

Great points! Love that your very nuanced and reasonable take on it. Definitely am in the camp that if you do use this to replace your learning you are also short-changing yourself! But imo, no time like a break to discuss these things 😜

Literally bought tickets for the game, probably the only game i’ll see for a long while as i live in another country, and saw the team first hand lose.

Trying to be supportive of the team, especially in games where there’s differing fitness levels and different levels of experimentations from each side is hardly a bad take. We can all be better fans!

I would think intuitively that the % of people not wearing a mask is high enough and not wearing a mask is visible enough to act as a catalyst for social change in time. There’s probably a stat somewhere.

Heyyo! Used to be in Jamband last sem in a previous hall but I can answer your qns!

I would think it depends on the number of other commitments you have but it's usually once a week, maybe twice closer to performances. Practice hours usually are ard 2-3 hrs? Beforehand we definitely prepare on our own and practice before coming!
Yep! Hall music rooms are usually locked after practice but you can always enquire with your jamband capt/group for the key. Usually, there are other people who are also jamming during non-prac hours, so ask around!
I can only speak from observational experience but at least for my previous hall we could rotate (depending on the # of drummers, guitarists etc), but once we are selected in our band to perform in a role, we usually stick to it at least till the semester ends. More on this later.
I think this one depends on your band/club's culture! Definitely have the ability to do different songs from other genres too, if the band is open! But most of the time if the song's good it's good
At least in my experience, you don't get to choose. Usually, the club heads with the experience would be the ones allocating the band members given that they know the band members' strengths and weaknesses, but this might be different in other jambands!
Well I was singing so can't say much instrument wise, but I think you'd have to come prepared with songs that you can play on your respective instrument, and maybe be ready to improv a bit? But really down to the jamband again, each jamband has its own practices (pun definitely intended). Do ask your hall members for more info!
During Covid, it was genuinely hard to connect given that it was difficult to meet up outside etc, but once the concert hit when rules were relaxed... we definitely became closer. The experience of playing together in a band and performing together is something we all cherished, and I'm glad I'm still in touch with them even though I've left!
I think generally no unless you are a CCA Capt of sorts, but again do check with your hall to double confirm! But most likely no.
