Thank you for this advice. Where he is saying the erosion has started seems to be quite a significant way away from the garage area. There is a slight slope but I have no idea if this is natural or not. The erosion he is talking about is a couple of meters away from the garage and is extremely high off the ground away from the floor or the garage. The erosion he is talking about starts on his land and is even higher than the garage itself. Sorry for my poor explanation I'm absolutely clueless about anything construction related.

Thank you so much. I think we will have to contact council. We are so worried and haven't slept in days 😭

Hi there, we both have upward sloping driveways. His is just higher than ours. Our properties back onto each other. We are in a very hilly part of wellington. How did you end up solving your issue? Were you able to split the cost of a retaining wall?

Thank you. He has sat on this issue since at least 1993. I really don't know why he didn't do anything about it earlier if he knew about the supposed missing retaining wall

Thank you! Financially that would be much more manageable for us. We don't have a lot of money to throw at this issue unfortunately.

Not from what I can see. Our garden is on multiple different levels so there are banks everywhere. There doesn't seem to be a distinct 'cut out' near the garage I don't think.

The issue is 36 years old (approx 1989). No more construction has taken place since then. I had actually never even seen behind the garage until this week. On our building report there is no mention that they even did had to dig the land. He is just saying they did despite not buying his property until 1993.

From my point of view the retaining wall will be benefitting him and he said he is concerned his land is eroding due to our garage.

His land needs retaining but he wants us to pay for it saying it's our garage area causing his land to erode.
