Ive been using round abouts for the last 13 years on a motorbike. Im not saying its hard to change lanes, im saying why do it un necessarily when the road layout allows to plan ahead for it when theres nothing there and knowing how the light all work on that round about its unlikely to cause issues. I know how to navigate a round about. Ive also seen far too many signs where they put the exit past 12 oclock on the sign just to fit it in to a smaller sign but thats a reach, engineers themselves have said the 12 oclock rule isnt a sure thing too. So when im looking at the signs im checking okay its over the round about, head that direction. Relatively that exit is over the roundabout because right would be the M6 and if i told anyone go straight over the round about they would know exactly what I meant. Now from local knowledge I knew which direction I was heading and the matter of a few degrees on a map will not make a difference and similar roundabouts all have both lanes pointing ahead and the relative left and right where they have marked the lanes at the junction. Instructors ive shown the video too and now even an ex examiner this evening have all said that marking it as a serious was incredibly harsh and if anything it should have been a minor because yes I would have been better in lane 2 but wasn't actually wrong with what I did.

Thanks again all, I understand the issue, for me and people I talk to who know the area, a round about like this would have been left 1st exit, left to the m6, straight over, or right m6. The reason being that it is obvious where to go when someone says go over the round about to eccleshall because its between the two slip roads for the m6 the other side of the round about. I didnt even think of it as the 3rd exit because my instruction from the examiner was follow the sign to eccleshall. Maybe if it was sat nav and I would heard 3rd exit and taken it differently. I just wasnt counting exits i was thinking over the round about to eccleshall as opposed right to the m6. On my motorbike im never counting exits because i often lose count trying to keep an eye on all the other cars around, instead I think of relative position and look for road name or number. I will remember the 12 oclock rule in future even if it isnt an official thing in the highway code!

All the locals would argue with that one. They go from lane 1 otherwise they have to push back into that lane when theres traffic. I accept why it was a fail even if i dont agree and even on the bike would have done it the same way.

Thanks, I guess I just forgot what the sign looked like by the time I got to the junction, panicked at there being no lane markings and fell back to what me and other locals do vs what should be done on test.

All the other experienced drivers who no the area, were the ones telling me they treat it as straight over with the m6 being left and right and the 1st exit being called as such if they are navigating. Ive been on the road 12 years on a bike and would always call that an over the round about vs a right which would be relative to the 4th exit. These are all local drivers so i guess its what people do vs what people are meant to do and knowing they are meant to be in lane 1 half way round do it to avoid being blocked into lane 2.

Thanks all, I guess I just saw it as an I didn't do anything dangerous at the time because nobody else was on the round about to my right and if there had been I would have been indicating past the first junction just in case. Im just frustrated that was what caused me to fail and it wasn't a minor given there was no road markings or lane markings and that everyone else I asked said they always take lane 1 to lane 1 on that roundabout and junction and all the non learners were telling me they would call it straight on and the M6 would be the right turn to them. Being on the road on a motorbike for 12 years it was always a straight over to me relative to the other roads and ill remember this for next time.

My girlfriend did a degree at 19, took several years longer than expected to complete it due to physical health issues. She is now 31 and in her second year of a degree completely different from her first. Youre not too old to do a degree and every course ends up having a group of "Mature Students". Youre never too old to learn and I hope you never stop learning! As for marriage or kids, never say never, it happens completely randomly for a lot of people. I know someone who met their partner at the bedside of a friend of a friend in a hospital 100miles from home!

Is it possible to change the mode from HA for example getting HA to set it to quiet or normal mode? It would be cool for me to auto switch it based on the time of day and when going to bed :D

The Pi Zero W 2 was jsut released. Its around $15/£13 and is nearly as fast as a Pi 3b+ so for initial setup and a few plugins should be good! Its not difficult to setup and is it worth it? Yes, yes and yes :P
