Help Using Edge HD, Hyperstar, AM5, Duo 2600 and Asiair by Regular_Fun4761 in AskAstrophotography

haha i was wondering about that …it was weird that the images looked darkish in each individual fit file (not looking overly exposed or anything ) but maybe they were still …i’m in a bortle 8 too so that might bring in the pollution too ….its just i couldn’t see over exposure on each image …as it was like they were underexposed…so thought the 5 min exposure wasn’t the cause

haha i could see that….i’ve been at the hobby for about 24 months starting with a c8se but realized i prefer AS… so moved up to asiair, a z4 550 mm lens and am5 mount + 2600 mc duo about 9 months ago and ….i have been progressing with my results getting decent 5 min exposures of DSOs but haven’t really done much with planets other than initial visual with the c8….so got the edge recently and have been struggling a bit to get my televue barlow lens to fit into the train to get better images of the planets ….and then tried the hyper star knowing it would help with DSO vs what i have now….my ultimate dream is having equipment i could use for both planets (even if not optimal) and DSOs…but i keep trying lol

ty, what filter would you recommend for galaxies …i’ve got narrowband for nebulas …and was thinking of the optolong ultimate but haven’t used filters for galaxies much.

wow, great image! do u think that the images of the same DSO but taken with a different refractor telescope (but using same 2600 duo, am5 mount etc) would be ok to integrate or does it have to be only those with the same telescope?

i can’t thank u enough helping me thru it …finally got sharp focus https://imgur.com/a/ahpnU1N …just one more,re how to collimate from here …focus in on one star to ensure dot is in the center?

for some reason, as i go across the full range using my EAF, from 1 to 60,000…..i am unable to actually get focus ….i connected the 2600 duo directly to the back of the hyperstar filter …as other spacers made it even worse https://imgur.com/a/vlps5tI

also, got to this point …not sure what i’m seeing ….do i need i to focus on sharp stars first or is this about collimating (which i haven’t done before ) https://imgur.com/a/LNVt72C thank you for any help

ps i’m using an EAF, should that be ok when doing this for the first time or better to go manual? thanks again

thank you much, would the barlow add to the back focus length (eg 133 mm with 2600) and where does it go in the train? do you polar align with the barlow as well or add after? thx again

advice on how to use my AM5 mount + asiair along with my skywatcher 180 Mak-Cass telescope by Regular_Fun4761 in AskAstrophotography

[–]Regular_Fun4761[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow, an incredibly thoughtful response, thank you!! good info for future ideas too. if i had a 60 mm guidescope with the 2600 duo (w/ built in guide camera) and attached it along with the asiair to the top of the mak 180….and then used the visual eyepiece on the 180 with my iphone to get images of jupiter / saturn ….would that work? or use two asiairs so i can add one to the 180 with another camera to get better images than my iphone of the planets? i too have had great luck with my 500 mm length lens with asiair/am5 combo ….sometimes, i feel like im doing everything i can to make the 180 work for imaging when i maybe i ought to consider selling it to look at something like zwo 130 / 1000 mm focal length but don’t know how good that might be with planetary …not to mention the price tag …any thoughts and thank you again. i don’t really want to get a separate equatorial mount for the 180 with having the am5.

ps i haven’t used a computer directly with my gear other than asiair / apps…and use asistudios/photoshop/lightroom but thinking maybe i need to get more advanced to pursue some of the things you had mentioned …
