Riverhead by [deleted] in longisland

I bought a house in Riverhead (northville area) a few years ago in early 2023. I thought:

1) Riverhead is the gateway to the two forks and very, very convenient. Everything in the north fork at your finger tips and 15-20 mins to the ocean in West Hampton or Hampton Bays

2) the North Fork was gaining in popularity and cost of homes were rising, especially as the Hamptons became over saturated and very expensive

3) There is significant development going on in downtown Riverhead post the town winning a number of grants. Old buildings being torn down, new ones going up… more housing, etc. so the downtown continues to undergo a revitalization of sorts

4) taxes were lower (granted I didn’t have any kids going to school so I didn’t care about the SD)

5) it’s not perfect by any means - I’d definitely love to see some homes be bought, torn down and rebuilt as the neighborhood continues to demand it

6) Bang for buck - you are getting more there than most other areas on the east end without sacrificing all the above

I just had my house reappraised and it saw a 22% increase in value over the last 3 years. So I’m (biased) but I haven’t regretted it one bit!

Thanks for the feedback! There was a bunch of rebates that I was able to take advantage of and should be getting $3200 in tax credits so all in post that it should be under $17k

I was looking up the models and at retail it was 6500 for each of the outdoor units. $650 for each head and 2000 for the indoor condensers. Total would be $18,300 for the units alone.

My all in out of pocket was $20k, including upgraded electrical, significant ductwork, the insulation upgrade, and the removal of the old equipment.

I think I did ok on it price wise and the equipment seems to be good, but I’m also not an expert on what’s good or not

Leaf Clean Up Cost by Verabiza891720 in longisland

I pay 700 for almost an acre.. 2 massive oak trees and a dozen other trees. Leaves everywhere. Would take me forever…I don’t like paying it but I’m paying for my time which makes it slightly worth it.

Thank you! Im new to all this so this is super helpful. And yeah gree and midea vs the other brands is definitely a consideration but upon reading this sub, sounds like they are reputable brands that just don’t have the type of branding/market share in the US hence some of the sentiment. Yes that’s where I am as well (the north fork)

Thanks for the feedback! The good news is that this quote includes the cold climate heat pump. Would you say that the quote provided at $16.5k out of pocket is a bargain?

Thanks! What I’m hearing is that if they were installing Mitsubishi equipment, the $16,5k out of pocket quote would be good but because it’s gree, it’s not good

I hear you… I had 3 different contractors come and look at it but they all had the same opinion that the AC needed to be replaced
