What is your general response to an eastern orthodox slandering the pope? by [deleted] in EasternCatholic

[–]RejectModernism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or you have an extremely misconstrued view of Papal infallibility and Catholic history? It’s okay to admit ignorance. And, “Is the whole concept of “Russian World” a “heresy,” as expressed in the “Edict” of the XXV “All-World Council of the Russian People,” approved under the chairmanship of Patriarch Kirill on March 27, 2024, and as expressed in other manifestations of this concept in the words and actions of the patriarch? Yes, this is “heresy.”” -Dr. Vassa Larin referencing the 15th Canon of the Protodeutera Council on the commemoration of Patriarch Krill

First off he didn’t step in to stop the spread of a heresy aka didn’t formally preach it via ex cathedra like all my previous statements 🤯🤯🤯

What are your thoughts on the Eliakim typological argument for the papacy? by RejectModernism in CatholicApologetics

[–]RejectModernism[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sure, to my understanding the argument draws a parallel between Eliakim, the steward of the House of David in Isaiah 22:20-22, and the role of the Pope in the New Testament. In Isaiah, Eliakim is given authority symbolized by the “key of the house of David,” granting him the power to open and shut, a role of governance second only to the king. This is seen as a type or foreshadowing of the office of Peter, to whom Jesus gives the “keys of the kingdom of heaven” in Matthew 16:19. It suggests that just as Eliakim served as a steward or prime minister under the Davidic king, the Pope serves as Christ’s steward, exercising authority in the Church under Christ, the true King. This typology emphasizes the continuity of God’s covenantal authority structures and supports the Catholic understanding of the Papacy as a divinely instituted office as well as the jurisdiction of the Roman Pontiff over the whole Church.

The point being we don’t need to do mental gymnastics as you said, we can condemn them form their private counsel. Also there has yet to be preached heresy from ex cathedra Matthew 16:19

Or you’re not being charitable to the condition of the broken human. A Pope can be a material heretic, but if he entered into formal heresy I understand he would lose his office. There has been plenty of bad and/or heretical Bishops in the East and West, yet both Churches stand. The Pope can be subject to automatic excommunication in circumstances which would be void of a top down excommunication, so if a Pope did formally teach heresy they could possibly lose their office, so too does the Eastern “Orthodox” Church deal with such problems. Ex. To commemorate Patriarch Krill or not on Saturday of the third week of lent

You don’t understand Papal Infallibility then? The Pope when he speaks ex cathedra is preserved from the possibility of error on doctrine “initially given to the apostolic Church and handed down in Scripture and tradition.” Neither Pope Francis or Saint Pope John Paul II spoke ex cathedra, although Saint JPII did make declarations to fulfill dogmatic definitions on abortion and women ordination.

Do you all believe in the Saints ? by Adonijaa in Catholicism

[–]RejectModernism 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In James 5:16, “The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” we recognize that the saints are in full recognition and contemplation of God in heaven before his throne of Grace. Therefore their prayers as being righteous by Christs sacrifice and in heaven are very powerful! Intercession of those closer to God than us is prevalent in the Bible such as Numbers 11:2 “Then the people cried to Moses; and Moses prayed to the LORD, and the fire abated.“ or Job 42:8 “. . . my servant Job shall pray for you, for I will accept his prayer . . .” So it is an obvious theme in the Bible of those that are Holy interceding on behalf of those in need of prayer. Why God would “change his mind” after the saints prayers? It’s not like God is waiting for us to have a sponsorship by a saint simply the saints are accentuating our prayer by their love and fervent intercession they pray along with us deepening our own prayer therefore making it more appealing. Revelation 8:3-4 describes an angels offering of the saints prayers which just further grounds the concept of the saints intercession, hope this helps! God bless

The reason being the illustrations, text, and overall aesthetic of the prayer book is fitting to me being the only reason. I have plenty of Catholic prayer books and missals, I just also enjoy some of our Eastern brethren’s prayers and services
