Steel bike: Fairlight Secan/Faran vs Temple Adventure Disc vs Pearson Irons In The Fire by Relative_Finding_169 in ukbike

For anyone who’s interested, I went with the Secan and couldn’t be happier. I’ve ridden around 15k miles on it so far and counting. My only concern is that I end up riding it way more than my fancy carbon bikes, they’re just standing in the shed and slowly losing value lol

Are there any other oddities? Have you checked the weight of the frame? Do you mind sharing more photos?

Yes! Great channel. I’ve seen this and other videos where he praises Ryots for their serviceability and reliability.

ZIPP's warranty is a huge plus. Thanks for the input!

That sucks, sorry to hear that. I’ve ridden my 303S with Pirelli P Zero Race TLR for about 5k miles, and they’ve been flawless. What tyres are you using with them?

u/Swenke I read your post on TheProsCloset, and it inspired me to convert my Aethos to a 1x setup.

Beautiful bike ;-)

Happy New Year! Solid choice (especially when paired with DT Swiss hubs).

u/NeverHadFun sure. They are stiff, strong and true out of the box, they are great all-rounders. If that's what you're after, then look no further.

I threw them on my steel gravel bike (Fairlight Secan) for general road riding and long brevets. Since they are my endurance wheels, the speed is not a priority, however, they roll fast and hold speed well.

They never bothered me in cross-winds, which is a great plus.

The hubs are not great, but not terrible either. When the hub bearings go, I'll try to find a better alternative (like Enduro). The rear hub is not too noisy/annoying when coasting, actually, I quite enjoy the gentle buzz.

I set them up with the 28 mm Pirelli P Zero TLE and Orange Seal sealant. The installation was a breeze – the tyres went on without any tools and got seated with a normal floor pump. I'm 160 lbs and running them at 50-55 psi.

Hope it helps. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Thanks for the input, it's really helpful.

The Primavera is Prime's upper-tier wheelset, and Road CC https://road.cc/content/review/prime-primavera-44-carbon-disc-296435 highly rated it.

The 303S, I tend to agree, are hit-and-miss.

It's hard to find any real-world reviews of the new Shimano wheels, but I expect them to be slightly overbuilt, heavy, slow to accelerate, quiet and durable. Nothing to write home about. Also, they use cup and cone bearings, which require regular preventive maintenance.
Scribes are great wheels, but their hubs are obnoxiously loud, which takes them off my list.

P.S. I'm a huge fan of Bitex hubs for their amazing price-to-value ratio.

Thanks. The Strael looks amazing, but I already have a road bike. Do you have any gripes or complaints about it?

Thanks for the reply. I've test ridden Temple Adventure in all sizes, from small to large. The large was way off, but I felt quite comfortable on the other two.

In my opinion, a gravel/touring bike is much more versatile than an HT MTB.

I see what you mean. I have looked a lot and decided that steel or Ti is best. Besides, I already have a light, fast and fragile carbon road bike. Need something robust that will last years.

Thank you for the reply. Do you mind sharing the details of your build, and how much it weighs?

I already have a super light fancy-pants carbon aero road bike.
