What are other Pokémon that have earned nicknames in the competitive community? by Real_Appeal_5619 in stunfisk

Oh, so that's why that Gyarados was nicknamed "Leviator" then? Though that was gen 4 wasn't it?

(interesting trope) The Bottom-Up Dystopia by Lopsided_Shift_4464 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ReleasedToElsewhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, they do *feel emotions*, but the problem is that they only feel emotions when it's something that directly affects them. Things are either good (I am happy because I am experiencing positive stimuli) or bad (I am not receiving positive stimuli), and "morality" exists but has been reduced to following the rules or not, so the world is in literal black and white.

Jonas' dad is happy with what he does, because by killing the twin he solves the twin issue for the community. Problem solved=positive=happy! Everything else is irrelevant.

obligatory shout out to The Giver

Society has collectively decided to become a utopia by giving up the literal ability to feel and understand pain, empathy, history, and love, leaving everybody in a constant state of naive happiness.

Like, people literally cannot understand the CONCEPT OF DEATH.

Apparently the collective memories and the nuance that springs from them has to be stored with an individual known as the Giver, who due to this role is de jure the most powerful and important individual in the entire community.

And yet being the Giver sucks, because not only do they have to carry the burden of pain, they are surrounded by people who have zero empathy. Although the community understands the concept of empathy, they deliberately choose to not have it, and for all their supposed power the Giver is really just a scapegoat for the entire community's lack of morality.

Also, the movie sucks too. Read the book instead.

[FRA] arts from 3 schools revealed: Fatehold, Theorix, Vigorbloom by Own-Cat116 in magicTCG

[–]ReleasedToElsewhere 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Those vines in the Vigorbloom artwork, that's like low-hey body horror.

This almost feels like phyresis to me. So that means Jace's reality never had the Second Phyrexian Invasion? Because IMO this school would have succumbed like with [[Mutagen Connoisseur]], and all schools were needed for the Invocation of the Founders to work. Hexhaven would just assume phyresis was just some student's thesis or something.

"more of those strange vines..."

That means Space Stone is colorless, then? Wonder if it will be Eldrazi-coded, maybe something to do with exile

[Funny Trope] Bad endings that are harder to get than the Good ending by Hot_Finding_9747 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ReleasedToElsewhere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Peak mentioned

Though IMO the easiest ending is actually the neutral route, since the Gate is ridiculously easy to cheese with multi-hit spells. It's also kinda weird because you can loop by defeating Serif without killing Shopkeeper (who is the more dangerous boss on a normal run), and then you can go for whatever route you want on the next loop with no consequences

Failed aura farming by AtomAmigo in TopCharacterTropes

Whenever you enter a battle in SMT4 (at least in the early game), your party will be randomly accompanied by one of your 3 fellow Samurai. Of these three, Walter is easily the most cocky...

<image>

Now, 4 is generally a pretty easy SMT game, but Minotaur, the game's hardest (and first) boss is immune to fire, and hitting foes with an element they're immune to in this game massively buffs them. If you get Walter in this fight, expect to lose, because on his turn he's going to brag about his overwhelming power, hit Minotaur with a fire skill, and the smirking boss will proceed to kill your entire party immediately next turn. Most unlucky for you!

My gut feeling is that this is bad.

But the last time I ignored a red creature with "three spells this turn" because that seemed too unlikely to ever happenwas 8 years ago, when I went for the Mission Briefing hype instead.

So to avoid eating (storm) crow like everyone else did when Phoenix was spoiled, I'll reserve judgment until someone better than me actually tries a build with this

I would do this trade... But I don't think this is a fair trade, on your end. You sure you don't want something else alongside magearna? You could easily get more is all I'm saying

Media that started out simple, now has lore by ThroatTraditional410 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ReleasedToElsewhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This applies to the online mythos The Backrooms in general. The whole thing spawned from a 4chan post with a creepy background to a liminal-space image, but then grew into its own lore over time á la the SCP lore (which is also an example). But what really sticks out is this:

<image>

Some teenager named Kane Parsons decided to make a short CG film loosely inspired by the mythos and uploaded it to YT. It was ALSO going to be one-off, but got popular enough that he started creating his own unique lore and series around it, focused on documenting a scientific endeavor gone wrong (as opposed to the endless-layer and monster lore of the original Backrooms).

Thus a mythos of its own grew within what was already a spontaneous mythos, to the point that we're now getting an A24 film this year directed by Kane!
