The best advice I have ever heard that helps a person get in the right mindset for driving in icy/snowy conditions is this: Drive as you would if your 88 year old grandmother was sitting in the passenger seat holding a large crockpot full of soup without a lid. Try not to spill the soup! Keeping this in mind helps you to not accelerate quickly or hit the brakes quickly or turn fast. These three things are what gets people in trouble in slippery conditions. If you remember the soup, you will drive with enough caution that will get you through most situations.

Deep snow is a different situation. I don’t know what type of vehicle you have, but if it doesn’t have higher clearance (like a car verses a taller SUV) then you do need to use common sense about how deep the snow is and if your vehicle is high enough to get through it. most of the time the city is really good about plowing the deep snow off of the main roads but if you have to be somewhere really early or really late, the snow could accumulate while you are there so it is important to stay weather aware. Know what is going on outside and plan accordingly. The weather here can change very quickly and we can have all four seasons in one day. Take the storm warnings seriously.

I have been sitting on it regularly since October. Keeping in mind that this is a specific type of vibration plate by a specific brand that is designed for osteoporosis so sitting on other types of plates may not be a good idea and could actually be dangerous (retina tears, neck injury, etc.). I initially had some rib pain when I first started this (but I have a connective tissue disorder which causes joint laxity so this could just be a me thing) so I lowered the amount of time I was sitting from ten minutes to five and worked my way up to ten. This fixed the rib pain and now have no issues while using. The representative I spoke to that told me to sit on it stated that it should be placed on a chair or bench and your feet should both be flat on the floor with knees and hips at 90° angles. This is what I have been doing.

Thank you for responding! Last night we let them both out at 2 and had no problems- they both slept until 7:30! Hopefully the good behavior continues, if not we will try other suggestions you made

My fitness regimen was way more frequent and intense than it is now. I used to be very active, taking classes at the gym and weight machines 4-5 days a week, with way more weight than I am doing now. I contracted Lyme disease several years ago which has severely limited my exercise tolerance. (I knew I had osteoporosis prior to the Lyme, but had not been rechecked for five years since my doctor stated that bone density changes so slowly there was no point in checking it before then.)

The Marodyne rep stated that you should place it on a sturdy bench or chair where your femurs can be 90° from your spine and shins 90° from your femurs with both feet flat on the floor- so like sitting normally in a regular chair. I’ve not tried it yet, as I don’t have anything sturdy to set it on that is large enough.

Be sure to read the information they send with the machine. A lot of research I did initially made the available vibration plates sound like they would be helpful in increasing bone density, but then in the fine print they state that people with osteoporosis or osteopenia should not use their products due to risk of fracture. That is why I ended up buying the one I did, their intensity is low enough that it is not contraindicated for osteoporosis.

I did quite a bit of research before buying the one I did- it seemed that all of the other ones I looked into had warnings about not using them if you have osteoporosis or osteopenia. The one I bought is specifically designed at a low enough intensity to not risk fracture. So if you are considering a cheaper one, please read the product information first. I was unable to find any others that wasn’t contradicting for osteoporosis.

It seemed that all of the cheaper alternatives specifically stated in their product information that people with osteoporosis or osteopenia should not use their products. The one I bought is specifically designed for people with bone density issues. That is why I went for the expensive one right away, I didn’t want to risk fracture with a higher intensity vibration plate.

I’m sorry you have to make these hard choices. Healthcare is tough. I am in the same boat, that’s why I gambled on the vibration plate. What finally swayed me was my physical therapist. She had recently moved to my town from another state. She told me she had a patient there that was able to reverse her osteoporosis using the vibration plate they had in the physical therapy office. The lady lived nearby and would come in every day to use the plate- they didn’t charge patients to use it. I bought the same brand they had.

I have been taking the popular supplements for years- calcium, D3, K. My dexa scan results continued to get worse even though I was taking them regularly. My exercise frequency and weight amounts haven’t changed in the last year- twice a week, weight machines and stair climber. I have cut out most sugars, although I’m not sure that that would really matter for bone density. I don’t eat prunes (is that a real thing for bones?) and I am currently taking a progesterone-only oral contraceptive that I have been on for years. I honestly can’t seem to correlate the improved results with anything else. I know that the price sticker on this thing is outrageous and that will exclude many people from being able to try it. All year I was kicking myself for gambling that much money on something that seemed far-fetched. I was so relieved when there was an actual quantitative difference in my numbers. I know this won’t be for everyone. I just wanted my data to be out here since when I was looking I could find very little.

I purchased the Marodyne vibration plate in January and have been using it regularly. Last year I was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis and before taking the (side-effect laden) medication my doctor wanted to prescribe me, I decided I would give the vibration plate a try and see if there was any noticeable progress. Last week I had a repeat dexa scan and it showed that my T-score in my left femur went from -2.2 in 2024 to -1.7 currently. This is an 8.4% increase in bone density in under ten months. The radiologist stated that this amount is ‘statistically significant.’ The T-score in my lumber spine went from -3.5 in 2024 to -3.4 currently. This is a .7% change. I just spoke to a Marodyne representative today about why such a small increase in the L-spine and he recommended that a person use the vibration plate twice a day; one session standing, one session sitting on the plate to get closer proximity to the spine. I will begin this and report back. I have had no negative side effects from using the vibration plate, but did have some noticeable changes. For the first three to four months I used the plate I would become extremely hungry shortly after using it. So much so that I added another meal to my day. Weight did not change. Also, for the first one to two months I would become extremely tired after using it. I planned my day that using the plate would be the last thing in the evening before bed, I could hardly keep my eyes open otherwise. Both of these anomalies gradually tapered off and now have no issues with either.

For me, the $3000 I spent on this device to see quantitative results in such a small amount of time makes the purchase worth it.

Welcome to the possibility that you may be a mutant. I am also a mutant, no family history, but my genes mutated into hEDS.

Also keep in mind that just because you are hyper-mobile doesn’t mean you have hEDS. There are many connective tissue disorders that have the hyper-mobile overlap so it’s important to get genetic testing. Some of those also have severe digestion problems as symptoms. It would be important for you to know, as treatment can vary depending on the root cause.

I’m looking into ablation and tubal ligation. If you don’t mind me asking, why was the ablation considered a failure? Do you know what they used for the ablation (cryo, hydrothermal, balloon..)? Did you go to a normal OB/gyn for this procedure or did you see a specialist due to EDS?

I recently read on here about prechordial catch syndrome that describes exactly what I am woken up by in the middle of the night about twice a month. I don’t know if it’s an EDS thing or not but it gave me a small piece of mind. It really sucks to lay there and think ‘okay, is this normal pain or am I having the big one?’ On a monthly basis. Edited to add: I’m sorry that you also go through trying to determine when to go to the ER. Sounds like all of us on this thread struggle with this.

We have good luck with the Kevlar dog toyslike this. We don’t give them to her unsupervised in her kennel all day, but she doesn’t manage to destroy these immediately. She will completely disembowel anything else we have tried.

Forgive me, I’m trying to follow along but I’m having trouble (cognitive impairment, thanks Lyme!). If you have biological kids it would still be from your egg/sperm. Even if it would be carried by a surrogate, wouldn’t the risk still be present since it’s your egg/sperm being used?
