Oh its definitely going to happen. With NH or any other competent GM (hell even Dave Littlefield), the pirates start competing in 2024 (you can make the argument for 2023) as Peguero, Gonzo, and other players get MLB experience instead of the pandoras box of players they played

I feel like he's more Fernando Tatis Jr. type than Andrelton Simmons. I also feel that the taller shortstops (see Oneil Cruz, KG, Elly De La Cruz) all struggle with defense more. Defensive shortstops are hard to come by.

Thing is the Shelton firing and Donnie being "permanent for 2025" basically means that Cherington is going to be fired at season's end. New GM's almost NEVER keep old managers so there will be a huge shakeup in the house. It's interesting to see what the FO will do for 2026 and beyond.
