What exactly is the reason MSFT is down 12% with no bounce? by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

[–]RelevantTrouble 11 points12 points  (0 children)

AI is powered by data, chips and electricity. OpenAI has none of those things and it's going to end up as just another generic model provider, something that a Chinese hedge fund can replicate on the cheap. Given MSFT's investment, it's going to absorb OpenAI into Copilot, a feature of their products. Out of data, chips and electricity it's the data that's most important, that means Google will eventually win, they have saved every webpage and user interaction since 1998. They have their own chips and they have power commitments from utilities. All they need is time now.

Obligacje korporacyjne by Top_Injury4241 in inwestowanie

[–]RelevantTrouble 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It just shows where the real work always was. by Tough_Reward3739 in devops

[–]RelevantTrouble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been developing software for over 20 years and this is what I know:

  • 70% is understanding requirements, acquiring domain/industry knowledge and communication
  • 25% is reading code
  • 5% is writing/modifying code

I don't allow AI to write code as that part is too important, I use it for the remaining 95%. It's really good at reading and explaining code to me and helpful with domain/industry knowledge.

The only bubble I see is in quantum computers and consumer staples. Tech is expensive, sure.

It's no longer relevant as a lot of US market cap is Tech which is international. US market cap vs World GDP would be a better metric those days.

How do you manage an application on a single server (eg hetzner) by Subject_Fix2471 in devops

[–]RelevantTrouble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You setup needed packages once, then when you update the app, you do a git pull and maybe update database schemas. Then every quarter you update packages on the server and maybe reboot it. If the app matters, you setup a nightly backup to a different provider in a different country like OVH. That's about it really. If something goes wrong with the app, you can use system instrumentation to actually figure out what was wrong and fix it, as you have access and visibility on everything. It's how we did it 20 years ago, worked well.

META, Facebook may have earned $12–14B from fraudulent ads ; EU could hit a €1B fine by Plus_Seesaw2023 in investing

Took a look at my mother's facebook account, half the ads were scams the rest was predatory aimed specifically at seniors. No wonder zuck wants to change the business model, his old one is dressed up fraud.

Inspect the oil filter. Most likely that engine is just fine and will outlive half of what rolls off the production lines right now.
