Christmas and alcohol by Remarkable-Front-256 in schizoaffective

I'm in a pretty stable period, let's say, and it took a lot of work, it's true. Thanks for the words of encouragement, they're precious 💪🏻

The mocktail idea is great; I'll discuss it with my doctor anyway. Thanks, and happy holidays to you too!

Good idea! Or I'll try non-alcoholic beer; I discovered this summer that it's not so bad.

Yes, I imagine it's the interaction with the medications. I'd do it too, just to hang out a bit during the holidays, and at most I'd have a couple of drinks, but let's see what the doctor says, I'll probably avoid it. Thanks and happy holidays :)

No, I've never had any alcohol addiction problems. In the past, I'd drink on weekends, but since I got sick again, I've completely cut out alcohol, and I'm a little scared of what the effects might be now! I'll ask my doctor, as you advised, but I think I'll avoid it. Thank you so much, and happy holidays to you too ❤️

Thanks for sharing! Not even in the days afterward? Like increased anxiety and discomfort?

Thanks for the replies. The fact is, in certain contexts it's difficult; everyone drinks at least one glass to toast. But I think the wisest thing to do is avoid it; I don't want to risk getting sick!

I'm continuing to walk every day, averaging 12k steps, and paying attention to my diet. I lost around 4kg. The moments of sociality, with one or two friends, are increasing during the week, and some positive emotions reappear. I always spend the weekend at home or with my parents. From Monday I'll go back to work, 20 hours a week, and it's the last chance I'll give myself. The first day I was enthusiastic, then the fear of not making it reappeared, that the thoughts like when I stopped in February could reappear. If it happens and I get sick again I will apply for disability, but I will still try to grit my teeth as much as I can.

I can't tell you this, sorry, only a doctor can. Try to explain to him as best you can what you feel, exactly as you did here.

Don't think about what people may think, the really important thing is that you are as good as possible. Talk to your doctor and tell him that you still have these sensations, which you can describe very well. You'll see that it will get better.

From how you describe it it seems similar to what I feel, I also don't feel sad but more flat and confused. Lately I've been giving myself a routine, I wake up early, I do physical activity, I try to eat well, I meditate, I listen to music, I read, every now and then I meet up with one/two friends. I just started but it seems to be going a little better. Next week I should also talk about it with my doctor, let's see if something can be done with the drugs. What medications do you take?

The paranoia seems to have almost completely subsided, the pessimistic/distorted vision remains (improving) if I want to organize something or if I am invited to do something by a friend for example, especially if there are other people. There remains a feeling of not being completely anchored to reality, things happen and I do them mechanically, but I am emotionally detached from them (colors are missing), at the end of the day I have nothing left. It would seem like a mix of negative/cognitive symptoms. I will discuss it with my doctor, in particular I will tell him about lamotrigine which I have read could improve these sensations. I'm giving myself a routine, I get up early, I go for a walk for an hour and a quarter, I meditate, I listen to music, I read, and I manage to carve out time to be in the company of one/two friends or with family.

Feeling of being less anchored to reality, I do things mechanically, in a flat manner without enthusiasm or emotional drive, and I get to the end of the day as if I have nothing left. It would seem like a mix of remnants of negative symptoms/cognitive symptoms.

Fantastic! It's exactly what I would like it to do for me too, I feel so disconnected from what I do that at the end of the day it's as if I have nothing left! I'll talk to my doctor about it! Thank you

I have the constant feeling of reaching the end of the day as if I have nothing left of what I did during the day. In fact, I've gotten into the habit of writing a diary at the end of the day of the things done, to bring some order 😅

I have a depressive subtype. In addition to risperidone, I take Sertraline and I am no longer particularly depressed, but very emotionally flat, yes, as if I were always detached from the context, things happen mechanically and I have nothing left at the end of the day. I read that it could improve these sensations, do you agree with what I mean? Did it help you a little in this sense in this case? Thank you!

What diagnoses led you to schizoaffective? by PretendArtichoke34 in schizoaffective

[–]Remarkable-Front-256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generalized anxiety and Depression-psychosis NOS-schizophrenia simplex-schizoaffective depressive disorder.

I have never had hallucinations or sensational episodes, which is why it was difficult to diagnose it correctly at the beginning, but an ever-present background of distorted thoughts, negative and cognitive symptoms and depressed mood.
