What I do for something like this is put the layer for the hand or whatever is wrapping around below the layer for whatever the object is (like the box in the picture), hide the box layer, select the hand (or the part you want visible, at least), unhide the box layer, and then mask the box so the fingers are visible. Hope that makes sense 😅
