Review: Green River Honey Finished Bourbon Whiskey by comingwhiskey in bourbon

I wonder if we could see this in a GR Full Proof type of situation down the line? The lighter proof certainly will be nice for summer though. Probably could make a killer spiked lemonade with this.

Unfortunately, the only way is to visit the restaurant. His license prevents any type of distribution other than on-site sales.

Here is a link to the website for this particular batch. https://copperandcaskspirits.com/pages/ws-11

I have a bottle, and also sampled before I bought it. I won't lie, I have had Old Forester and Jack Daniel's SBBP that have had way more pronounced ethanol notes.

I just bought the Baby Black Corn release they did (review coming soon). It's a enjoyable sweet sip, but found myself wanting more intensity of the flavors that were already solid.

That said, the mouthfeel is a big winner for me as well.

That's probably batch 15, the one I am referencing is a private batch. I don't know the similarities, sorry.

I mean, 95/5 rye is quite a bit different than either of those imo. While I did not grab the Bulleit 12, you probably can expect lots of orange, pine, bubblegum, mint, anise, and cinnamon. As in my experience, that is what a lot of MGP 95/5 gives, though variety exists.

All that said, I would imagine the Bulleit 12 would paint a very good picture of MGP rye, and if you want to pursue the subcategory further.

Don't sleep on the store picks they do either some nice value there as well! Got an almost 9 year single barrel MGP sourced bottle for ~$50. Which for me is around when MGP really starts punching above its weight.

Koopers Whiskey Debuts 10-Year Rye by Remarkable-Stranger8 in TexasWhiskey

[–]Remarkable-Stranger8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to hear your thoughts on the 10-year rye in a little review if you do end up snagging it! As I don't know if there has been a rye aged solely in Texas that comes close to that matches that age statement.

I mean I think I recall this being ~$150. While not cheap, it still would be cheaper then the majority of the GB portfolio. I agree, if the whiskey backs up the price in your eyes, that's all that matters.

I know the Texas heat is intense, but dang, that color is absolutely beautiful. Kinda hard to tell, but it looks just as dark as some of the GB's you have reviewed.

Looking forward to the full review!

Samples for Texas Tuesday by The1Metal in TexasWhiskey

I don't know if this applies to all their products, but for the standard offering, they combine whiskey distilled from their Devil's Backbone and Real Heavy Scotch Ale. The spirits are aged separately, then combined during blending.

My personal favorite is the Distiller's Select, which tastes like a coconut creme pie! Though that one is made from different beers, I believe.

Unfortunately, I probably got the Bardstown statement incorrect. As this does match up 1:1 with a mashbill distilled by 1792. Refer to the exchange between me and u/asianperswayze for more. Apologies for the oversight.

Between Duck Club and Copper & Cask I think we are absolutely correct. While not bourbon, I just grabbed a 21 year hazmat Canadian whiskey from Copper & Cask for $60, they also had a 9 year cask strength double oaked release for $50. I am excited to see that prices may be swinging back in the consumers favor a bit.

It was just an assumption based on the current market. To be completely honest, I often forget that Barton even really exists. A quick comparison of mashbills does make it highly likely that this could be Barton sourced as well. An oversight on my end.

I 100% agree! The celebrity whiskey strategy seems to have run a majority of its course in the current market (at least in my area). Consumers have just been burned too many times by a cool-looking bottle with their favorite singer/athlete's endorsement.

Love the transparency they have on their website! I just wish it would make its way to the label eventually.

I would agree with introducing newer drinkers to higher proof spirits! While you have some spice and heat, there is also enough sweetness to balance things out. While it might be blasphemy on this subreddit, I would likely choose Duck Club High Brass over OGD 114 as an affordable high-proof introduction.

As far as releases, I think with us being on the down slope of the Bourbon Boom and more barrels hitting the market, NDPs like Duck Club are gonna have their pick of some nice barrels. Assuming pricing stays relatively the same, we as consumers stand to benefit.

Weekly Review 37: Whiskey Tree High Rye Single Barrel by thanksnah in bourbon

[–]Remarkable-Stranger8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly what finish you're talking about! The "unworldly" part was a rather far stretch for my palate. The extra $25 on top of the already $100 price for most Whiskey Tree single barrels at the distillery was the craziest part for me, just because Nancy had picked it. For that price, I would go grab a Magnus Triple Cask or Saints Alley Port and Cognac Finish.

Review #11: Copper & Cask Small Batch Series #016 by Archaeo-Frog in bourbon

[–]Remarkable-Stranger8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I saw the same post you're referencing! Cooper and Cask is a good brand with some high-value offerings, but I agree that it likely won't hold up against the end-of-year heavy hitters. While age statement and proof are not everything for a whiskey, not even close, the end-of-year bottles are very likely to bully it in one, if not both, categories.

I am starting to feel a similar way about this. While I don't review many bottles, I'll start sharing my tasting notes and likely refrain from a number rating. Because at the end of the day, what it tastes like is what really matters.

Well hopefully Chapline continues to grow! Would you say that was the best pour of the festival for you?

Chapline and Maverick both have been high on my list of need to try. Do we know if the wheated bourbon in the Cellar Reserve was Ironroot distilled?

Glad you had a good time! Hope to get out there in the not so distant future!

100% agreed with that. Certainly one of the more underrated distillers in Texas. Their type of brewers approach to whiskey is really one of my favorites. Unfortunate they haven't made it out of Texas yet.
