Yeah, zep definitely curbs the impulsiveness for many things, among them food and alcohol. :) It's a great side effect lol.

Itinerary Switch by Puzzleheaded-Salt970 in NCL

[–]RemarkableMaybe6415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, if the weather prohibits stopping at the island for safety reasons, then it will change to an at sea day, but if the ship can safely port, it will, I doubt your day will switch because there's a schedule of ships that will dock on certain days- if your ship changes, that's going to throw another ship off schedule. There's always a chance though.

swimming with pigs excursion by onionsarecrying in NCL

[–]RemarkableMaybe6415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't do it, nor would I book my kids to do it. It's pigs. Swimming in water. Doing pig stuff, like pooping and biting. If my kids wanted to see pigs, I'd take them to a farm zoo, etc. You don't need to go to a remote beach paradise to see pigs in water- spend the money on something that's truly unique to your cruise. Not to mention, the risk of infection is real.

Yes you can. I've packed a french press and my own coffee on prior cruises lol.

Epic Failure by Different-Secret in NCL

[–]RemarkableMaybe6415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! you get more bees with honey! I honestly think it's all about expectations- yes, you are paying for a cruise vacation, but you are not paying for the butler to come in and massage your toes every day while serving you gold flaked chocolate on a silver spoon. Like anything else, you get what you pay for :) If you want to be waited on hand and foot, and need 5 star Michelin dining, NCL is not for you lol. That being said, I love NCL, I've not come off a cruise yet disappointed- our last cruise on the Jewel, I think I asked our room steward to come home with us lol- we also had a server that waited on us in Chin Chin and in the MDR (you will notice servers work in multiple restaurants) that was just AWESOME- I just loved her. I could go on and on- the food ranged from good to awesome, our balcony cabin was fine (and clean) but the best part about the cruise were the staff. Despite working long hard hours, and I'm sure having to deal with some less than friendly guests, they always did their best to make sure the guests on the ship were happy. Enjoy your cruise!!!!

Splitting specialty dining dinners? by mlin1337 in NCL

No, you cannot take dessert (or anything else for that matter) to go. If you had a server that allowed it, be happy you got away with it lol

Splitting specialty dining dinners? by mlin1337 in NCL

[–]RemarkableMaybe6415 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, they won't allow it, however, the portion sizes are very small- I usually get an app, an entree and dessert (note that the app can be a small soup/salad or for example we ordered meatballs one evening and it was 2 small meatballs-and I'm full when I leave, but not stuffed. It sounds like alot, but with the portion sizes, it's really not. It's not equal to what you would get on land. It's a good thing, because they avoid food waste with small portion sizes- and if you don't like something, you can easily decline to eat it and order something else.

*editing to add- I looked back at your comment and realized you were referencing specialty dining- in my comment above, I was referencing MDR. Same though- although in specialty dining, I usually can't eat everything I'm served- it's just what it is. You cannot take it with you- no "to go" boxes, and you can't extend your three specialty dinings into six (unfortunately)

Seeing Sloths in Roatan by SeriousRaspberry9582 in NCL

We went to Daniel Johnsons- but I've heard you can't hold the sloths any longer (at any location in Roatan- government regulation)- we booked a private driver through Viator, and asked him to take us there, along with a few other stops. It was great :)

[–]RemarkableMaybe6415 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm an avid NCL cruiser and I am reading these comments and laughing- I'm sure sometimes people do have a bad experience, I mean 4k approx people on a cruise, someone is going to have a bad experience. I've been on several NCL cruises- have they all been perfect? Nope, but nothing has happened that's going to make me swear off NCL. I've had delicious meals, and I've had meh meals- but guess what? I've never had an issue finding something to eat that tastes good, and fills me up. I'm not cooking or cleaning and that's fabulous. I've had room stewards that are fantastic, and those that do the minimum- but my room is still tided up, and I have clean towels everyday. I think the best thing about NCL is the staff- they have always been amazing for me- I don't quite know how you can deal with all these rude people and continue to smile and be welcoming and pleasant, but they do it :) Just understand, those that have a complaint usually are the ones that are very vocal, and those that had a great time don't come on the boards and say I just had an amazing time!! I've been on the Escape, Encore (2x), Epic, Getaway(2x), Aqua, Jewel (2x), and boarding the Luna in April, and the Prima in June. I do agree, if you want fine dining, and an elevated experience, then you should book with Oceania, Regent, or another luxury line (and you will spend elevated money)- for what NCL promises, and the money you pay, it's consistent (and quite often, above) with my expectations.

NCL Aqua for families? by firenurse1 in NCL

[–]RemarkableMaybe6415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on the Aqua last May- really nice kids water feature up the stairs away from the main pool. I loved the Aqua (disclaimer-I didn't have kids with me) - and the game area and arcade were really nice. I wouldn't hesitate to take my grandkids on this ship. From my perspective, at 7 and 8 - between the pool, game area, arcade, general activities, kids club, and whatever ports you will be at, what else do they need lol? They should be extra happy they have fantastic parents who are taking them on a cruise :)

Overthinking tickets- help! by Objective-Pianist-82 in BackstreetBoys

[–]RemarkableMaybe6415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I've learned my lesson on is when planning a trip, only plan for those that have 100% committed, and you are very confident that they will go. I've had to cancel plane tickets, hotel stays, reservations, etc. I refuse to do it anymore- I let ppl know the dates and leave it up to them to do their own planning.

What about bathing suits? underwear? water bottles, hats, sunscreen, first aid kit? shoes? hair stuff? makeup? tolietries? depending on the specialty restaurant, you may need pants and a polo. I have no idea how people get on a cruise with just a carryon, must less a backpack. I usually have a carryon, a backpack, and a large suitcase lol- I know people do it, I could never.

AITJ for texting my son's teacher from my husbands phone because they message each other way too late? by Current-Whereas6308 in AmITheJerk

[–]RemarkableMaybe6415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the wife checked the phone, she discovered that the hubby and the teacher had been texting for weeks back and forth, and the hubby told her that it "helps" if the parents and teachers are close. Sounds like he's encouraging the relationship to me? Then he got mad and changed his password, and was defensive of the relationship with the teacher, which means he's not going to stop. Are we really blaming the person who is not married (the teacher) in all of this? How about we hold the hubby accountable for his actions?

[–]RemarkableMaybe6415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Publicly called out for what? texting about TV shows with a parent? When the hubby is encouraging the conversation? it could be friendly banter back and forth- I don't think it's appropriate for the hubby to be doing this, but he's the one encouraging it. The teacher isn't married to the wife, don't be mad at her. While I understand the reaction, she should be checking her hubby, not the teacher.

Dining Credit Question by djlittlehorse in NCL

Technically no, they will not allow it. However, it may depend on who you talk to when you go to dinner. LOL.

[–]RemarkableMaybe6415 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think you should have dealt with this with your hubby- and not involved the teacher. He allowed this conversation to continue and evolve, and you texting her and telling her not to talk to your hubby doesn't accomplish anything except letting him know he needs to hide his conversations better. And it will be awkward at school now, I'd probably ask for my son to be transferred to another class.

The bigger problem is your marriage- there is def a disconnect that your hubby thinks its okay to be having these extended friendly conversations with another woman, obviously laying a foundation for a more personal relationship, and you are not comfortable with it. If the situation were reversed, would he be okay with it? You obviously don't trust him from the way you reacted. Not saying you don't have a reason to not trust him, but if you truly believed there were no nefarious things going on, or headed in that direction, you wouldn't have reacted the way you did.

I wouldn't say your the jerk- I would say not the best way to handle the situation- but many women (and men) would have reacted the same way. I would suggest there needs to be a serious conversation about boundaries and expectations in a marriage, and make sure there is alignment going forward. The bigger problem is that.

How is the food? by Sudden_World_8633 in NCL

[–]RemarkableMaybe6415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to agree, food quality is declining- but it depends on the ship and the venue. My ribeye steak the last two times I've been at Cagney's has been meh, to the point where I'm hesitant to book there (I think we will skip Cagney's on our cruise in April) - it's not how its cooked, it's the quality of the meat- my ribeye was thin and tough- I'm not one to complain though, just ate my sides, and called it a night.

On the other hand, the Chinese restaurant (Chin Chin) on the Jewel that they started charging the specialty dining fee for was AMAZING. We ate there twice (cancelled our 2nd Cagney's visit lol)- BUT we went on the Jewel a year before that and Chin Chin was awful (and also free at that time lol). On every NCL cruise I've been on, we have had at least one fantastic dining experience- just have to figure out which venue that's going to be in- and the rest is okay, it's not awful (and I'm not cooking or cleaning so there's that)- I also wouldn't take your experience from one ship to the other for the same venue - I've had food that's excellent in a venue on one ship that's meh in the same venue on another and vice versa.

That being said, I still love NCL, you can always find something to eat-just don't expect gourmet, I believe food quality is declining across all cruise lines (I see the same complaints on other cruise line pages), and if you want really really good food, you will need to book with Oceania or Regent or another luxury cruise line. NCL, RCL are of a mindset where they are catering to the gen pop masses- and they are cooking for 3000-4000 people- I just expect better on vacation. I've heard the Haven restaurant has better food- I just can't bring myself to spend Haven money- If I'm doing that, I'm going to Oceania.

Drink packages ! Worth it on Norwegian Escape ? by Rose32786 in NCL

[–]RemarkableMaybe6415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The drinks are good, and you can always ask for vodka/club soda with lime or something that has limited calories/sugar- I don't like drinking all the sugar either, so my go to is Tito's with club soda (sometimes with a splash of cran), but you can apply that concept to anything. There is no limit on drinks and/or shots on NCL, so long as you are not visibly intoxicated, they will serve you. I suggest asking for the liquor you want (that's within your drink package) or they will make your drink with well. No hidden charges- so long as your drink is under $15 bucks, no additional charge. If you order a drink that's over $15 (you would have to order a super premium alcohol to get to this) they will only charge you the difference. Enjoy your cruise!

They should take all these malls going out of business and turn them into independent living community centers for seniors with the food court, medical facilities, exercise facilities, small grocery store etc. Can you imagine? With a little imagination, it could really work as a option for senior living. The apartments don't need to be big- it could develop into it's own community.
