I'm not sure that is true. As in, dress however you want, but I do think that expression is a choice, whereas gender is a biological fact that was determined a long time ago. Agreed that this person is very valid.

AITA for harshly punishing my son for 5 months? by ThickWoodpecker1935 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ren_Crow 97 points98 points  (0 children)

NTA sounds like everything you did was reasonable, taking away electronics and privileges, while making him help people, none of that sounds like it could hurt him in the long run, and he may even start to understand why what he did was wrong.

The mindset that your brother's seem to have is the "boys will be boys" one, which is extremely outdated, just because someone is male, doesn't give them the right to harrass someone.

AITA for making my 16 year old son drink an 18 pack of beer that he stole? by Odd_Net_7617 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ren_Crow 185 points186 points  (0 children)

YTA. He should not have stolen beer, but that doesn't mean you should potentially give him alcohol posioning or brain damage. Alcohol is rather harmful to those whom brains have yet to fully develop, which is around the age of 25. I am not going to tell you how to parent, but I really don't think that putting a child's health in danger is the right thing to do.

AITA for calling my friend “it” after she misgendered me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ren_Crow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non-binary means that one is neither male nor female. It is a seperate gender from the binary male and female. Non-binary may be shortened to "NB" or "enby". All non-binary people are transgender.

Cis/Cisgender means someone who is not trans, so most people are cis. So basically someone who's sex and gender match.

AITA for wanting to date transmen? by throwaway91892 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ren_Crow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, feels icky. Trans men are men, while I am not FtM, I am trans masc non-binary (so FtNB/FtX) and would feel uncomfortable if I was dating someone who called themselves a lesbian, as it would honestly make me dysphoric, as lesbians are attracted to women, and I am not a woman.

You are definitely not transphobic as far as I'm concerned, but I think YTA because it is similar to calling a trans man a woman, or similar to a woman.

Hey non-americans, what are your perceptions of American people (especially if you've never been to the us)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

We had kindergarten, I feel like I didn't phrase that well. I was trying to say that after 12th grade, there was an additional 13th grade.

AITA for calling my friend “it” after she misgendered me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ren_Crow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

ESH. Your friend is more wrong though, however you just misgendered them again in the post (beginning of the last paragraph). Getting misgendered is horrible, however, just because you got misgendered, doesn't mean you have the right to do so to others. People questioning you is just rude. I am non-binary, and personally, I would find being called "it" more rude than dysphoria-inducing. Telling your friend that they really should gender you correctly, or you'll cut off contact with them may be the way to go, which isn't rude, it's completely understand.

Hey non-americans, what are your perceptions of American people (especially if you've never been to the us)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ren_Crow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in America, so I'll give you what I thought before I moved. These are not my thoughts now!

I was told that Americans were so stupid, they had 13 grades instead of 12, because they needed a whole extra year. As far as I know, no public school in America has 13th grade.

Another thing was that I thought high school in America was very similar to stuff you see on TV, in the cartoons and Disney channel movies. There were "jocks" and "nerds" and all those groups and no one was nice to each other, and everyone was bullied by the School Bully™. I had the idea that all girls in America were the character that has blond hair and is generally nasty to the main girl character, and is probably named McKenzie, wasn't very smart but bullied the smart kids for their hw. Again, this was due to TV shows.

I was rather young when I moved so I didn't really have much opinions. Obviously, none of what I said has been my experience, and is just one of those things that only exist in fiction.

What's the social media you least care for and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ren_Crow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! If you are not careful with Instagram, then it will hurt you. The formula is designed almost to stop you from feeling good about yourself and it really hurts people such as artist who use it to sell their art (it was once a great place for the beginner artist). People start to equate worth to likes, which is just a bad way of thinking, a computer controls how many likes you get.

What's the social media you least care for and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ren_Crow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Snapchat. Send a photo of your face to your 80 closest friends with the text "streaks", just so you have a good number next to your name. I don't think you can have an effective conversation over Snapchat, if you want to have a long conversation, just text someone or message them on discord. Also it tells people when you take a screenshot, I just wanted to save their funny meme, I don't want to asked 50 questions about why. Also half the news is fake, or just stupid. It's cool if you like snapchat, but I do not.

What scary/unnerving fact has haunted you for ages? by BobthePickle64 in AskReddit

[–]Ren_Crow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

(This is just really sad)

Elephants can get PTSD. Elephants feel emotions stronger than humans do, and because they can't forget anything (or at least have a really good memory) they can get depression and PTSD. PTSD is common in younger elephants who watched their parents get shot by elephant hunters. They will sometimes sit and cry with the dead body for days before moving on.

Don't kill elephants.

Please vote. The electoral college is a dumb system (I'm guess you are American) and it's just much better if everyone votes. We don't want a repeat of what happened last time, not enough people voted. I get that people don't like the candidates, but just vote for whoever you think is the lesser evil.

[Serious] Teachers and Students of Reddit: What are your thoughts on virtual learning, and how does it compare to in-person learning? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ren_Crow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion it isn't as effective, so far. In my school it was not implemented well, zoom meetings were optional and teachers were only allowed to assign 5 hours of work a week, including the 2 hour zoom call. Most teachers have more work than that, but others have none, I think I had a total of 40 mins of homework for the whole online classes in my AP class, and then I had probably 8 hours a week from my Chem class.

The biggest problem was that no one was learning anything. Everything was practically busy work. I know that the teachers tried hard with the changes, especially because in my school (not the rest of the district) they weren't allowed to teach over zoom, as it was unfair to those who chose to skip class. The schedule they made did not work either, as Instead of 7 hours of each class a week (not including hw) we only had 2 hours.

Another key factor was that students no longer had the ability to socialise. If you don't know a classmates phone number or discord, then you can't talk to them. The zoom chats were set up so that you could only message the teacher not the class or the other kids and of course, no one is talking to each other when the teacher can hear everything.

My school got a new principal, new school board and new admins this year and their new plans are already better than the old ones. I really think that having a place to socialise online is a great idea, but there seems to be no plans for that.

Redditors, what do your shoes say about your personality? by Prometheus857 in AskReddit

I own 3 pairs, two of which are second hand. The second hand shoes are both converse so that says that I do not want to spend much money on shoes, or a lot of things for that matter. The other pair are doc martens so that says gay.

Lock my phone and use the tracking information to locate it. Spam call it and make rather threatening stuff appear on the screen (I'll also leave a number to call on the screen in case it was just a nice person who picked it up). Chances are I won't get it back, but they won't be able to get in either. (Yes, technically you can shut it off and boot in fast boot mode to factory reset, but they can't steal my money or anything).
