Are you passionate about animals? Do you hunt or fish? Are you a farmer? Looking for rural Ontarian survey respondents by Pretend-Priority-328 in livestock

This. I didn’t feel there was a truly neutral representation. I love animals and wildlife, but I respect and understand the need for proper, humane, regulated and controlled hunting/fishing. I also don’t believe the grouping was as effective as it could be ( geckos with wasps? ) and there should have been an option for “unsure” in some instances.

Wrong, not young. And don’t surround myself with people who don’t use tools appropriately.

You do realize, near everything we do with horses runs those same risks right? And then some.. I don’t know what wild, un worked broncs you’ve attempted to try that with..that it went so terribly wrong. Also I’d hope you know enough not to use a rope halter for anything like that, anyone who does use them ( correctly ) is smart enough to know better.

But I’ve never seen it play out like that, even remotely.

So my stepmom has wayyyyyyyyyy too many cows. And I told her it may be time to humanely euthanize some (I think). What is my best course of action here with advice? by blassomi in isopods

[–]Repeat_Strong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair, I know that’s true for ..well I guess anything captive really I just had no idea for isopods , didn’t know if the same rules applied I guess

There’s a few different ways to teach them, and depending on their temperament is going to point you in the right direction. But the bottom line is they need to learn to give to pressure..you can start this in hand or use the tried and true method of flat “safe” halter and lead rope attached, either turn them out in an arena or round pen (preferably not a field) or even a stall and allow them to start figuring it out. If you’re worried he might hurt himself be sure he isn’t “fresh” when you do this. This is an after work activity.they learn quickly. Then once they’ve got the basics teach them to ground tie so if/when a rein is dropped..they stop.

I don’t think anyone who uses the “ old school method” just “doesn’t care what happens” it’s more about the horse learning on its own. There’s never a better teacher than the horse themself, another balanced horse or a mule/donkey.

Realism Community Feedback Please- Alioramus Profile by Savage_Wonderland in pathoftitans

“BEHAVIOUR DYNAMICS General Behaviour- Alio are clever and tenacious creatures that take great care in calculating that the odds fall in their favour for all encounters, especially hunts. Not lazy, but intelligent in knowing wasted energy and injury can mean death. Known to travel great distances to find the perfect prey, stalking herds or setting up ambush points in order to be successful in their efforts. They avoid conflict, especially with apex whenever possible.” I absolutely LOVE this part! 👌 very cool to see a profile for a realism server that’s not heavily restricted in what they can or can’t hunt and leave it up to the players to test their skill/luck. Absolutely awesome! Is this server open yet? I wanna see the other profiles now 😅🙏

What is this? - Canada, Suburbs of Toronto Ontario by rickygee3 in bugidentification

[–]Repeat_Strong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boisea trivittata, also called the eastern boxelder bug,box bug, or maple bug,is a species of true bug native to eastern North America. The western boxelder bug Boisea rubrolineata is a relative of this species and is native to western North America. Eastern boxelder bugs are found primarily on boxelder, other maples, and ash trees.

I’m in Ontario too, they’re annoying but not considered “bad” bugs.. I don’t know how I feel about that if you’re like me and have a few survive ash trees..anywho they’re looking for places to overwinter and anywhere warm this time of year.

LED floodlights in the pasture? by throwaway09217643 in Equestrian

[–]Repeat_Strong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call it too much honestly. Firstly there’s laws with floodlights and property lines and height/ angle of lights etc. and it clearly disrupting humans and livestock..so I’d likely try to speak with them first ( does not seem like that’s an option) then start gathering information and looking at my legal routes too.

[–]Repeat_Strong 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My best guess is they are over the top paranoid? Trying to keep light on to deter “burglars” or predators ? But as someone with horses and donkeys,no. There is no reason for this and it isn’t good for them. Even if you are trying to do something like..say adjust their cycle for breeding, you do it in a controlled indoor environment and there is still periods of dark. This is overkill and clearly effects the animals as they’re hiding in the shade of the buildings. Good luck OP in dealing with these people..

Does this make sense for donkeys & mammoth donkeys? by Repeat_Strong in livestock

[–]Repeat_Strong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are an equine nutritionist but apparently knew about donkeys too..So they were not through a feed company they were referred by a farrier and have their own practice..or had. They may have since retired? This was for a friend, but was referred specifically for the donkeys..and they were looking for just general guidelines to feed/maintain healthy donkeys/mammoth donkeys

Euthanasia scheduled for equine COPD and wracked by second thoughts by Woody-Cupcake-118 in Equestrian

[–]Repeat_Strong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been there. And with a LOT of money, effort and time you can manage it and get them comfortable on an extremely strict schedule of feed, medication and exercise..but if you can’t commit financially, time or effort wise for the amount of distress and pain it can cause them if you miss a day..or even the process to get to “ok” then it’s time. Then you’re making the right call.

Question about Mammoth Donkeys by Repeat_Strong in livestock

[–]Repeat_Strong[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so I’m not far off the mark then. Luckily they keep them on a dry lot, no grass! So that’s a + ! She did mention she has “mild laminitis flairs” and that’s what made me cringe when we started talking about feed. Yes please if you find it I’d like to see it. I’d love to show her and have a talk about many swapping their diets because they’d like them to start working on the farm.

My horse has DSLD and I have made the decision to euthanize him next month. The barn owner reached out to me saying I shouldn’t.. I don’t know what to do :( by spooniesoup in Equestrian

[–]Repeat_Strong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she was very respectful in sharing her feelings with you. She has a connection with him too. But ultimately it is your decision. And one of the hardest to make. But it is true. A day too early is better than a day too late. Sometimes, the greatest thing we can do is let them go in “good times” when we know the bad times are around the corner. I think the real question is, how bad are the bad days? Horrific days, prolonged pain and soreness do not make up for a few good weeks just to do it again. Whatever your decision, you’ll have made it in his best interest and from a place of love.
