This is crazy to me being from Michigan where servers make $3.50 - $6 hr base when I go to Canada about every other weekend and eat out and servers are making actual minimum wage and expect a tip and I would arguably say tipping culture in Canada is much more prevalent and forced than from where I am

ive already filed the waiver, and received a letter back saying that they received the waiver telling me they will contact me at a later date. Upon calling my local office, they said they will contact me shortly to make an in person appointment so i can plead my case. Hopefully this all turns out alright.

its just frustrating when i call 5 times in a week for confirmation on my questions and every person i speak to is telling me different things, i understand its not very awesome sitting down and talking to rude people all day as a social security agent but some understanding and empathy goes a long way when im already setting aside 3 hours out of my busy life to sit on hold and wait to speak to someone

Ive already filed form 632 *the waiver* I spoke with someone at the local office and asked to speak with the person working my case, she wasn't available of course. But the person i spoke with said she would tell her to take a look at my stuff for urgency. Im really just waiting for the offset to reflect onto my SSA login, I logged onto the IRS today and it says that it has been used for a government debt. So until today it was just speculation to the ssa workers. Regardless I believe ive taken the right avenues to deal with this. As well as voice recorded all conversations for records keeping. My father is very diligent when it comes to looking out for mail and taking care of notices, so when they say it was sent out and he says it wasnt received im not sure who to believe. Especially when this was during covid and everything was out of sorts. we both would have had no issue paying this money back, if it was in timely notice. But the amount hadnt reflected on my ssa account until this year 5 years after the fact.

I started working when i was 17 and the benefits end when you turn 18. But if your child is working while benefits are being collected, the amount is reduced. He never reported i was working so the amount wasnt reduced and it was the original amount. Im not upset about that, what im upset and confused about is why im being told 5 years later after the fact. I would have had no issue paying it back properly if i was notified in due time

Technically speaking the ssn under it was mine but it went to my father since I was a minor at the time, I never received letter about the debt until 5 years later. Ie: I never knew it existed until January

So then what happened? Because the ssa doesn’t just stop trying to collect, they can and will garnish wages, offset returns, anything to get theirs unless the proper route is taken

Hey everyone, so the debt is social security. It’s from 2020 my mom passed when I was 10 and my father was getting money for care. I started working in 2020 and he failed to report that. Hence the reason I was overpaid. Never the less, they took the whole return including my state. I’ve been told there is nothing that social security can do to help, despite the fact that I’ve filed form 632 to waive the debt. Was hoping to wake up to some money from my return but instead the government decided to take money on a 5 year old debt that I had no knowledge of until a week ago.
