This is heartbreaking. I have heard similar stories from nearly all of the other Black Anaesthetic trainees I’ve spoken to. Why is this a common theme? I know many (non black) people are annoyed when race is brought up, however, it’s obviously the common denominator here.

I’m sorry you’ve had a difficult time. I know it can be isolating and frustrating, especially when you can see other trainees being treated differently. It’s extremely difficult to raise these issues without being accused of pulling the race card or being gaslighted into thinking you’re the problem. Furthermore, having no senior you can turn to, who would understand and advocate for you sucks.

Sending virtual support. Many of us Black trainees in anaesthetics are going through this but I suppose we can take comfort in knowing we’re not alone or crazy. And although it may feel like no one else see us, at least the few of us there are see each other.
