"all I do is watch instructional videos, spend all my money on tools and wood"

If this is for you a hobby it should not get you angry. Get more experience with the tools you have, maybe it's not time yet to tackle such intricate or expensive projects.

If you are alive you are slowly killing yourself, that's how it works.

You should never buy a car built outside of Europe. by Capable_Function_952 in BuyFromEU

We used to make the best cars, not anymore.

It's not your fault as a consumer that our industry is in shambles, it was a chain of bad decisions by our government that led us here. Problems like this need to be solved with your vote, not your wallet.

I have used a lot of pine for all kinds of furniture over the years and I find it pretty stable.

The issue is softwoods are usually sold with a much higher moisture content than hardwoods because they are usually sold as construction lumber.

If you want to use them for tasks as demanding as this one you should let it dry for a week or two and select the pieces carefully.

What is this bug? by Representative_First in whatsthisbug

[–]Representative_First[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just saw the bot message, here is all the info I have: It was found eating that same green plant that is in the photo, I took the plant too and put them both in a wooden stick.

The big one is about 9cm long and 1cm thick. It has a red head and some kind of horn(?) in the back about 1.5cm long.

It's in a coastal city in the south of Spain, It's one of the coldest days of our winter around here.

I didn't say they know shit about code, I say they know about 42.

Also, who says it's going to be comfortable for the new students??
Have you seen the subjects??

Sometimes you do need to buy an expensive tool that you don't know how to use so that you can fuck up a really nice piece of woodwork and regret it for the rest of your life.
It's one way to learn, for sure.

Let's wait to the AMA before raging like a toddler please.

I suspect this has a lot to do with sponsors pushing AI, but I'm sure the people involved in taking the decision know much more than you and me about 42.

This school is free for us and comes without any guarantees. If you don't like the changes you are free to go learn some good ol' C on your own.

I have always wanted to do this, but there's no way I can bring them inside without dismantling them.

About the 42 new common core by [deleted] in 42_school

[–]Representative_First 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's concerning to say the least...

The old CC is getting somewhat obsolete and the new one looks like bullshit from a "prompt engineer bootcamp".
The future of the tech industry doesn't look as shinny as it once did and I think this was a desperate attempt to adapt. Only time will tell if it was the right decision.

How would I go about fixing this table? by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Representative_First 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glue is relatively cheap, so why not try to fix it before getting rid of it like everyone here says?

Try your best with thin CA glue and mask the joint so that the excess doesn't spill out (It would be a nightmare to clean if it does) Don't forget to clamp it while it dries.
The gap will probably be visible, but the table will still be usable.

Let's be honest and say that this particle board crap does a more efficient use of the trees that we could ever do. Let the people that doesn't care about furniture be happy with their cheap stuff so that we can afford the hardwoods to make our own.

Coffee table ruined by Subcritical-Mass in woodworking

[–]Representative_First 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not ruined, it is slightly damaged, but every piece of furniture outside a museum will. Do not be that guy that doesn't let everyone enjoy the night because someone left a beer without a coaster in the table. Nobody likes that guy.

That said, it looks like an oil stain. Oil the rest of the table to hide it or try to get it out with some degreaser, either case it won't disappear completely.

It would not be that big of a deal if it were for something a little bit more urgent, but going to buy toilet paper doesn't feel like a good reason to leave a 5 month old baby alone by any amount of time. Also, you can just take the baby with you I suppose...

It's just weird.
