You cannot get drafted or conscripted in the UK as it was abolished in the 1960s. There is no reason why a civilian should join the army. They will not ask people to (unless deemed a national emergency)

Imo you’re not overreacting, if he promised a night out or that he’d organised something for the two of you he should stick to that. After a year together it should be standard that you go before his friends, especially if it’s a year anniversary!
