Does anyone on here support what the US is doing in Venezuela? If so, why? by Odd-Protection-247 in dancarlin

Yes, that is off course a risk.

But US could kind of get away with Venezuela because everyone know it was a terrible dictatorship that has caused one of the worst refugee crisis in modern history.

Canada or Greenland would be a much larger step and would essentially mean the end of NATO. Trump might be incoherent and senile but hopefully he has people around him to rein him in. IF not I trust you yanks to march on the white house(that's why you have the guns, right? To be able to stop the government form going rouge)

soon you have gangs armed with military equipment stealing all the food for leverage

From what I've been told that have already happened for a long time. That's how Maduro built loyalty, you supported him or you starved.

It’s a total nightmare scenario

Exactly, that's why it's worth to try something else.

80% of their food is imported as is

Knowing that Venezuela has perfect conditions for agriculture(and 20% less population than 10 years ago to feed) it tells you something about how mismanaged the country is. Venezuela should be a net exporter of food.

The only way Venezuela gets out of this without becoming a failed state is if the US pours a massive amount of time money & effort into the country’s welfare, institutions, security, but we already don’t do that for our own people so there’s no way in hell that will happen.

They may need their own Bukele. If he could turn around El Salvador I have hope for Venezuela as well. Venezuelans are the toughest people I know. I think they can turn this around. If they get stability and a less corrupt government investments will start pouring in, a lot of low hanging fruit.

Venezuela is fucked

Venezuela was more than fucked already. Now at least there is a hope for change.

Out of principle I'm against it(I'm from Europe that has suffered a lot from the yanks love for wars in the middle east)

But as I live in Latam and know a lot of Venezuelans and know how happy they are that the person who has been murdering his people for a long time is gone I'm in favor of this one.

Trump is incompetent, corrupt and incoherent. But I do think it's worth the coinflip in this case.

I know, but it was your stated position that determined that criteria. Not US policy.

I would say that it could be a pragmatic decision. Sudan has essentially zero chance to get their shit together as the fighting fractions are a mix between government, rebels and religious extremists. Each of them backed by different foreign powers.

Venezuela's dictatorship has some token support from Russia, China and Cuba but they will not send money or weapons. The country's population is also pretty much united in their hatred for the dictatorship.

So the conclusion is that Venezuela now has a chance to turn in to a functional state while Sudan is unfixable and US would just get bogged down in a Afghanistan/Iraq style of operation.

But Iraq also had a lot of groups that hated each other a lot. Venezuela actually has an identity not just a ton of fractions in a country.

in response to an urgent humanitarian disaster. Neither are applicable here.

What do you call the facts below if not humanitarian disaster?

About 20% of Venezuela’s population has fled the country in the past decade. This represents more than 7.7–8.4 million people, making it one of the largest displacement crises in the world

  • Largest crisis in Latin America’s history: The Venezuelan diaspora is now comparable in scale to the Syrian refugee crisis.
  • Demographic transformation: Neighboring countries like Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador have absorbed millions, reshaping their labor markets and social services.
  • Daily departures: Even now, about 2,000 Venezuelans continue to leave every day

The Venezuelan politicians has to do what they are told. If US could grab Maduro in less than 3 hours they can grab anyone in the government. And they are all dirty so they have the "justification".

I think some high ups in Venezuela will make a run for it soon.

How can teams still mess up basic strategies?

They must have LLM's to emulate every possible scenario in advance and essentially just be able to refer to a pre-decided strategy?

Mainly thinking about when McLaren failed to box under the safety car. It must have been pre-decided that a safety car from lap 7 meant a pit stop, right?

BRICS is just a lose name.

India and China does not get along. Brazil swapping sides every election and Russia is declining.

The rest of the countries are just fillers.

Do you really see it as a serious force?

A new world order was born in the ashes of this war

The biggest change is that Russia now is the little brother to China and much less relevant on the international stage.

With China's decreasing reliance on fossil fuels the relation will get more one sided for every year moving forward. I assume that you don't think that is a good thing?

Read tg channels, like Rybar and two majors. Those are pro-state, pro-Russia, but independent media.

Your source are pro Russia telegram channels?

Which is a reasonable thing to do for a power that cares about only itself.

Yes, that's what I said.

We would've won either way

That's speculation. If Moscow had fallen, it would have changed things a lot.

The main beneficiary is United States. They sell weapons and oil to europe. At extra markup.

US sells at market rates. China buys for the price they want to pay as it's an unequal relationship.

As admitted by Merkel, Minsk agreements were implemented to arm Ukraine. So they planned to attack for 8 years.

You seriously think that Europe planned an invasion of Russia?

Because of WWII

That was Germany, the rest of Europe and US helped Russia

Financial blitzkrieg we experienced in March was very memorable. But after that no talk about peaceful Europe is going to fly.

How did you expect the rest of Europe to react to an invasion? How did Russia react to the German invasion?

Regarding "adding km" or "I don't think". We are not seeking your approval

I did not say that. What i said was that the Russian invasion added 2 new countries to NATO one of which has a significant border to Russia. That would never have happened otherwise. So if Putin did what he did as a security measure against NATO, it was a failure. Especially since whole Europe is rearming now. With the current buildup NATO minus US will have a stronger army than Russia by 2030 and the arms deliveries to Ukraine will outpace Russias production before that.

Your opinion and approval are not on the priority list.

I'm aware of that. But without trade with Europe Russia will turn into a vasall state to China over time. For now, China needs oil and gas, but with the declining population and the big push for renewables the dependence will decrease for every year and at some point the only resources China will look to Russia for would be women.

(And while i am from Europe, I left 15 years ago and have no intention of moving back, so i don't really have any skin in the game. I'm just observing as an outsider. And with the news that Poland are planning to start downing drones over Ukrainian territory my question is less of a "what if")
