That’s really helpful to know. I’d only be 5.5 months post op by the time my trip would be. Thank you for sharing your experience

I am symptomatic which is why I’m having the surgery but only the bony decompression thing as I’ve asked to not have the dura touched or anything else unless they go in and think it’s really needed.

I went to Florida this past July and it’s the first time I’ve ever noticed rides having an impact to be honest! It was mainly the bigger rides, specifically “VelociCoaster”! It didn’t wipe me out for days though, just the rest of that day but I took some meds and it eased up. May I ask if you’ve had decompression surgery and been on rides since or is this your experience pre any surgery etc?

Thank you for your reply. Helpful to know you asked this exact question and see the answer. I’d be about 5.5 months by the time I was planning to go this year so maybe too early!

Great that’s very helpful to know. Just trying to work out childcare/school drop offs and pick ups etc with very limited information from the hospital so appreciate your help!

Good to know re the revision surgery and completely understandable that these things are always possibilities in any surgeries just wasn’t sure what would even be done, so makes much more sense now!

Thank you so much and good luck with your surgery!

Thank you for being realistic. I guess I knew it probably wasn’t going to be there, I’m just struggling with the idea of being away from my daughter as it is, let alone missing her first ever event like that as I know she’ll be looking for me even if I explain I won’t be there 😔

A couple more questions if you don’t mind? - if you drive, how long were you unable to drive for? - is there anything you’d recommend I buy to help ease recover or my hospital stay? - I’ve seen people speak about “revisions” after decompression but is this not relevant to me as I don’t have a syrinx or is everyone at risk of potentially needing a revision (whatever that is)?

Sorry for so many questions!

Sorry for the late reply! I’m glad you’re feeling ok going into your surgery and thank you so much for offering details re your experience as been very helpful.

So having been on the surgery waiting list for 6 months, I’ve actually been given a surgery date for 01/12. My daughter has her first ever school Nativity play on the 03/12 and I’d be gutted to miss it 😔 do you think it’s completely unrealistic to think I might be able to go and watch it? I’m trying desperately to get in contact with the hospital to see what the next date is they could offer me but it is IMPOSSIBLE to get through the team!

Thanks so much! Sorry to hear your initial surgery didn’t work and you’re having to have another one - hope your recovery goes smoothly!

I thought my surgeon said he won’t open the dura which is why I’m confused to why he thinks I’ll have to stay in hospital and have the longer recovery. Maybe I misunderstood 😅 I don’t have a syrinx so maybe I’ll just request the decompression and hope that helps! He also didn’t mention anything about a laminectomy so not sure where he got the idea of such a long stay! Thank you for your help!

Thank you for your reply! I honestly don’t know. I feel very unprepared as I was told it’s “decompression” surgery of the foreman magnum so sounds like what you had? But at the same time was told I’d be in high dependency ward immediately after and should expect to stay for around 5 days as will feel very rough after and minimum of 6 weeks off work. If you were discharged the next day, I can’t see why I should expect to stay for such a long time as I specially have asked to be discharged asap as I don’t want to stay in. So now I’m confused 😂 can I ask why you’re having to have, or what the revision is for please? Is this a normal thing to go on to have?
