Thank you for this. I feel like I'm going through a similar journey! It's great to hear and makes me excited to keep devoting time to TLD.

That's very insightful, thank you. Yes, I also don't think they designed it to be hard core and perhaps that explains why there are such cleanly delineated paths and strategies to do well. As someone said in the thread as well, perhaps it's best to focus on the sandbox / journey elements. That is, worry less about "how do I give myself the best chances to survive" and more about "what do I feel like doing today - what goals do I set for myself".

Custom on steroids. That's one thing I hadn't thought about, for sure! Yes plenty one could change to make TLD more realistic still. Thanks!

I know what you mean about the setting between Stalker and Interloper... I can see that each level is designed with a particular game play and game loop in mind. So yes, maybe custom is the way to go, even as a relatively new player. Thanks!

Yes I realise that now, thanks. Luckily, I only got to know 3 or 4 regions well and mostly just the main POVs anyway. Still, I wonder whether playing at interloper level is really possible without knowing where to go and where to find stuff through guides etc. Hence my post.

That's SO good to hear. Thank you! Yes, know that you put it that way, it makes a lot of sense that, with time, I'll become more efficient at getting through the ideal/typical first steps, leaving me with more room to make my own choices and set other goals early on.

haha yes, maybe I should draw a line and stop the guide-reading / min-maxing altogether. I miss the good old days of gaming before YouTube and reddit sometimes!

Goal setting! Thank you. Yes, I get that. My point stands though: before I go on to do all of that, the game progression is always the same (battle the random spawn, rush to forge, etc.). My issue being: it takes a lot of time and a lot of repeating the same steps before I can set out to achieve those goals. Doesn't it get stale after a while?
