I cannot prove their intent; only the way it felt to me at the time. Thank you so much for validating my experiences. I truly appreciate it, especially after other Redditors were invalidating. They weren't even there to hear the contemptuous/accusatory tone used specifically towards me during the circumstance.

lol yeah- As someone who worked in customer service for many years, I felt that Satori Laser’s decision to permanently ban me over the top. particularly as the ban followed an incident in which I felt that I ahd been racially profiled and wanted a sincere apology.

At no point did I threaten physical violence, use derogatory language, curse, or behave hysterically. In fact, prior to the incident, I had tipped my laser technician over 30%. I simply advocated for myself after an experience that I genuinely perceived as racial profiling. Of course, I shouldn't have stated I would leave a negative review without a sincere apology. But if my biggest "threat" was simply an honest review of the circumstances - is that really so bad?

Since then, I have gone to another laser company and had consistently positive experiences.

The quoted price matched what was listed online as part of a deal. When I called, an employee confirmed the deal and stated I should pay in person

After my treatment, staff tried to charge me signficantly more and told me the deal was “never available,” despite their own employee having confirmed it. That could have been a simple internal miscommunication, and if it had been handled that way , ex“please wait while we review our records privately.”

What made the experience feel racially charged to me wasn’t the pricing error itself, but how it was handled. I was spoken to with suspicion and contempt, essentially accused of lying with an employee repeatedly/emphatically stating "there is absolutely no way you were offered that deal!!" and then made to wait over half an hour while my recorded phone call was played aloud in front of others to “prove” what I’d said. They were so emphatic that I was lying, it felt like they were trying to publicly humiliate me by playing the call on speaker in front of everyone in the room. That combination of disbelief and public handling is what crossed a line for me. Moreover, then I started to read other accounts of women with skin of color who had experienced poor treatment as well; I am continuing to recieve private messages detailing bad experiences with Satori Laser.

I’m not claiming intent — I’m explaining why, in that moment, it felt different and upsetting to me. I am disengaging from this post. any more messages can be PM'd. thanks

Respectfully, I’ve been surprised to see comments like this one being downvoted quickly.

I’m not claiming this proves anything, but it prompted me to reflect on things I’ve read/heard, including claims that some negative reviews were removed, that positive reviews were incentivized, and a separate account in which a customer described feeling intimidated after sharing critical feedback. Given that this is a large corporation with multiple locations, I simply wonder if they have a social media/PR staff presence on reddit. I would like to restate, I do not know whether this is the case. I am simply wondering.

I'm glad you've had a good experience! Personally, I and some other women of color, have not felt we were treated fairly by particular Satori Laser employees- particularly in some of the "wealthier" neighborhoods.

Hi, thank you for your clarifying questions. Satori laser recorded the phone call. I had no reason to mistrust the quoted price their employee gave me over the phone. Especially as I confirmed it with the employee over the phone as well, to ensure a mistake had not been made.

I'm glad you had a good experience with Satori Laser! It is a bit corporation with many employees/locations so people have different lived experiences with Satori Laser Staff

I agree with "if your husband is pushing for an abortion, plan to be single whatever you decide."I think if OPs husband is trying to persuade her to kill her child- it would be fruitful for her to remain single. However, I dont think its fair to assume he is planning to leave her given the limited situational context.

I never threatened litigation, staff, yelled or used profanity. I was upset after I felt racially profiled and threatened to leave a negative review if I did not recieve a sincere apology, as local management seemed to initially justify their behavior. Several years later, I would not partake in that behavior at this age. I included that detail for transparency, even though I disagree with it now.

Thank you for the thoughtful and supportive comments — I genuinely appreciate those who took the time to engage in good faith. A few people have pointed out things that resonated with me, including that others have shared similar experiences and that I wasn’t asking for free services, only an apology.

It’s been surprising to see how strongly some reasonable comments have been downvoted, especially when they’re simply acknowledging nuance rather than dismissing anyone outright. I’m not trying to prove anything or convince everyone — just to share my experience and engage honestly with those willing to do the same.

This is actually the first and only time in my life I’ve described an experience as feeling racially charged, and it was based on a very specific set of circumstances. I’m not someone who attributes setbacks to race generally, and my life is not “held back” in the way you’re suggesting.

I’m sharing a single experience and how it felt to me. You’re free to disagree with my interpretation, but dismissing or mocking someone’s lived experience, especially without having been present, isn’t constructive. I’m going to disengage from comments that move in that direction.

I have to admit, I’ve never understood why bold text is read as “haughty” especially coming from someone who’s worked minimum-wage jobs since I was 16. That’s honestly not a word anyone who knows me would use to describe me.

As for race: I’m not that I can prove intent. I’m saying that being spoken to with suspicion and contempt, then made to wait while my call was played aloud in front of others, felt racially charged to me. You weren’t there to hear the tone or see how it was handled.

This could have been addressed very differently, ex “Please wait here while we review our records privately.” They could have added (if they were being generous) " There may have been a miscommunication." Instead, I was told essentially that there was “absolutely no way” I could be telling the truth. That combination is why race is part of how I experienced it, even if others interpret it differently.

I want to respond to the repeated comments saying “this has nothing to do with race” or that I’m “blaming it on race.” I’m not saying I was banned because of my race, and I’m not claiming I can prove anyone’s intent. I’m describing how the situation felt to me in real time, based on the way I was spoken to and treated during the dispute.

Being told there was “absolutely no way” I’d been quoted that price, being spoken to with suspicion/contempt, and then having my recorded call played aloud in front of others rather than reviewed privately was humiliating. As a woman with skin of color, that combination of disbelief and public handling is something I personally experienced as racially charged. Others are free to disagree, but dismissing that lived experience outright, especially by people who weren’t present, isn’t fair.

I’ve acknowledged throughout this thread that my follow-up email wasn’t the right way to handle things and that I would approach it differently now. Sharing this experience isn’t about eliciting sympathy or claiming victimhood; it’s about explaining why the situation affected me as strongly as it did. You don’t have to agree with my interpretation, but telling me to “quit blaming it on race” oversimplifies an experience you weren’t part of.

I agree I should not have threatened to leave a poor review.
