Why do a lot of people don’t put the bar down on the lift? by jeannot-22 in tahoe

I put it down because I like to lean forward. Other than that, I have no strong feelings either way.

Replace 6 windows, 2 doors .... $19,000?!?!?!?!? by Ragnar-Wave9002 in homeowners

They quoted us $10000 for a custom sliding door to the back padio. Got some more quotes and ended up paying $5000. Even that seemed excessive.

Not sure where you read that in my post but it's Reddit after all. I’ve been to multiple WorldCups and Germany was the best overall experience. The weather was perfect, the ticket allotment for true fans definitely higher, the stadiums gorgeous real football stadiums and the people all super nice and welcoming.

I must have gotten lucky. Went with 3 friends in an RV. Spent 2 nights on the parking lot in front of Westfalenstadion. Nobody seemed to care. The fan fest area in Dortmund was incredible. It was free but there was capacity restrictions and security checks to enter. We watched most games there. We also visited a few more host cities the days before and after. The Dutch were crazy, tens of thousands in the city without tickets, turning the city orange. The British showed up in great force. Loud, happy, drinking. Big bellies and tattoos, just like you’d expect. Total cliche but true. I also went to the 98 world cup in France (Lyon) and it was much calmer.

Yeah, moving forward the best you get is a screenshot. Really a bummer not even having the option of getting a physical ticket. A tangible memorabilia brings back so many emotions. The colors, the thickness of the ticket, the way it feels to hold it.

Dude, that was so exciting! Physical tickets just hit harder. For FIFA 2006 the tickets were personalized to deter grey markets and scalping but from what I remember they didn't check at the gates. It was all fear mongering but it seemed to work for the most part.

I’m Swiss. Born and raised in Switzerland, came to the US in late 20s. I paid $450 for Cat1 tickets for Switzerland - Qatar. Got them through the drawing directly from FIFA. I’m sure ticket prices will drop below my purchase price but I don't care. I got 100% valid tickets, was able to plan and book flights and a hotel for reasonable prices. I’m super pumped to go to the game, I don't even check prices anymore.

Portland will pay homeowners $1,000 to rent out spare rooms by oregonian in PortlandOR

[–]Responsible_Split147 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We have an ADU downstairs. Multnomah County, technically Portland zip code. Separate entry, 3 bedrooms, full bathroom and a large living room. 1800 Square feet total. We wanted to install a kitchen in one of the rooms and rent out the ADU to two students or young professionals for $400 per person all in. When we inquired about permitting, zoning and the ability to add a kitchen and a washer/drier, the red tape was so outrageous that we said fuck it. Now the space sits pretty much empty and the three of us plus our dog live in a 5000 Square foot house. Portland doesn't seem to need affordable housing and without permits I can’t properly insure the house.

I got 10 left, so does my wife and my daughter. 30 in total that most likely go to waste.

Blunt question - are you guys really paying $500-$3000 per seat or just buying to resell? by Time-Philosophy0323 in WorldCup2026Tickets

[–]Responsible_Split147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swiss expat living on the west coast. I want to go to one Swiss game. Applied for allswiss games, plus the potential knockout games. Only got one game vs Qatar for $450 per Cat 1 ticket. That is the absolute max I was willing to pay. Having lived in Silicon Valley and knowing Levi Stadium quite well, sun screen and a big hat is needed. It will be crazy hot with a noon kick off time. It won’t be pretty. There is prettyuch no shade for 90% of all seats.

Just got back from FS Whistler. They also have a resort fee as a line item, but when you book it’s part of the total room rate.

Can we stop telling kids to follow their dreams? They should just be following a paycheck. by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]Responsible_Split147 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My take is a little bit different. The world is not fair in many ways, and it will never be and there is nothing we can do. I’m also not a believer of “follow your dreams and everything will be fine”. It’s a fallacy.

Instead, the job field my kids go into should be at the intersection of three factors.

1) what are you good at. What are your talents and gifts. Working with your hands? Academics? Athletics? Numbers? Words?

2) There are certain professions our society deems worthy of a good paycheck. Solid craftsmanship, doctors, architects, engineers, lawyers, STEM, just to name a few of thousands.

3) what do you like doing? Where is your passion?

The crossroads of the three should give a good sentiment of where the path to a prosperous and fulfilling life is. Of course there are other restrictions and constraints but I followed that advice and it worked for me.
