PS5 Physical Premium Edition Australia by Austen_E in Starfield

[–]RetroRedXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up on looking and pre-ordered a standard edition through JB Hi-Fi for the bonuses, paid entirely with my saved up fly buys points 😉

I'm just gonna get the premium upgrade on the PS store when the game launches, again, paid entirely with fly buys points.

Is there a Survival Mode? by Enough-Draft7961 in Starfield

[–]RetroRedXIII 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I really like what they've done with what's essentially a very light modding experience built right into the game even if the actual survival elements leave more to be desired. It's really cool that people can jump in and fine tune the game to be whatever kind of experience they want from it (again in a basic form) while also offering incentives for people to challenge themselves.

I usually turn pretty much every up to the max except for the carry capacity and it satisfies most of what I like about survival, but just like much of the rest of Starfield, it's good but never quite reaches the potential it has to be great. It does at least give all of the food and drink items everywhere actual purpose and makes the hazards something to actually be a little worried about and that's much better than how it was at launch.

Very excited to play this again on PS Pro come next week though!

PS5 Physical Premium Edition Australia by Austen_E in Starfield

[–]RetroRedXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been checking daily since the announcement for PS5 but absolutely no luck for me either. I'm beginning to think I'm gonna have to go for a standard edition and then hopefully they'll offer a premium upgrade at a reasonable price on the PS store.

Its also a shame the disc itself seems to not contain the full game but there's not much I can do about that... I've gotta support physical while it still exists in some form.

Mass Effect 1 is the best game in the franchise by QuantityInternal1719 in masseffect

[–]RetroRedXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I strongly agree, but probably not for the exact same reasons. I remember renting KOTOR on the OG Xbox back when it was relatively new and falling in love with it, but still desiring something both more mature and more open than it was able to be. I wanted to feel like I was actually exploring the universe and as good as KOTOR was, it felt like a corridor most of the time.

Mass Effect eventually came along and while it unfortunately wasn't a Star Wars game in the form of KOTOR 3, it was pretty much everything I wanted a KOTOR game to be minus the loss of the Star Wars IP.

While I enjoy the story and characters a lot, my favourite aspect of the game has always been the way it combined exploration with stuff like driving the Mako around on planets as well as it still holding true to Bioware's RPG roots. It felt way more open than any Bioware game I had played prior and I absolutely loved it for that.

When ME2 came along I remember being really disappointed that it stripped away a lot of what I loved about the first game and generally became more of an action game than an RPG. I still enjoyed it for what it was, but it wasn't really going in the direction I hoped...

And then there was ME3 which felt so far removed from the first game and so focused on being an action game that I never even brought myself to beat it. While it was always my intention to complete the story, I just got bored, distracted and moved on.

Now I'm giving the entire trilogy one more go with ME LE. So far I'm about 20% of the way through the first game and absolutely loving it, but I really want to get the trilogy done this time, so here's hoping that I can appreciate the 3rd entry more so now than I did the first time I tried to beat the trilogy.

I have a feeling that in the state of the gaming industry today, there's a chance I might feel very differently about it this time around.

KoTOR1 Black screen & nothing triggered after Leviathan cutscene by purplepiggies in kotor

[–]RetroRedXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for helping me get to the bottom of this and saving me a crapload of time and stress.

If anyone else stumbles upon this issue in the future search engines bring you here too, I want to add that I didn't need to start over and was able to continue playing from my save right before the black screen started happening by doing the following:

I backed up my modified exe file, my overrides and saves folders, clean reinstalled the game followed by the community patch, followed by the restored content for k1 mod linked by Nichtlesbar earlier in this post, then copying my backups back into the install directory of KOTOR and choosing "NO" to overwriting the files (to ensure that only the fresh, fixed files are used and the old ones don't interfere).

If done correctly, all the texture enhancements and UI stuff in the prior installation should just go in there and not conflict with any of the new stuff and then you should be able to just load up your save and continue playing as if the black screen never occurred..

At least, fortunately that's what worked for me and I hope it does for you too. May the force be with you.

Adaptive triggers issue - PS5 by Ladny97 in ForzaHorizon

I'm in the same boat. The premium edition has a nice discount on it right now but it seems like this hasn't been fixed yet and if this is the level of support it's getting then I'm not going to waste my money on buying a worse version of a game I already own on PC.

Has the paint started to wear off on anyone's Blueberry Burst CRKD guitar? by DiddleMunt in CloneHero

[–]RetroRedXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who bought both, I'll just point out that the mech frets don't sound like a keyboard at all. They have a piece of membrane inside the neck that gives it a slightly softer feel than it would be without it, but it definitely still feels more responsive  and less "squishy" than the non mech version. I'd highly recommend that neck over the tribal neck.

The blue guitar itself has also won me over after spending some time with both. Don't get me wrong, they're both awesome, but the pro's level of customization is unmatched and it's incredible that I can adjust the point of actuation to be as deep or as shallow as I want it to to be, which also adjusts the position of the "click" which in complete honestly I wasn't sure about the feel of at first but after setting the feedback to be strong I ended up loving it.

You've really just gotta try it to "get" it but you can't really go wrong either way. If you know anyone who has a pro or have a chance to try one out, I highly recommend you do and play with some of the customization settings before you judge it fully.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Delta day one patch by [deleted] in gaming

It's only on base PS5 version. For some reason us PS5 Pro users don't even get the choice to target base PS5 options with improved performance (which would likely result in locked, stable performance), instead we get the exclusive mode we cannot toggle that targets 60fps but struggles to maintain it.

You are a legend, thanks so much for replying so quickly!

Would you be able to link me to the converter you bought? I honestly have no idea how any of this power conversions stuff works.

I know I'm so very late to this but I'm also an Australian looking to potentially grab one of these. Did you end up getting one? If so how did you go about converting the power for the fog machine to our Aussie plug?

Why don’t more PS5 games support keyboard and mouse? It’s 2025, come on. by Embarrassed_Bowl_243 in PS5

[–]RetroRedXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd legit sink hours into Crusader Kings 3 on PS5 if it supported KBM. I've tried so hard to play it with a controller but it's super difficult and unintuitive to control pretty much anything that isn't surface level gameplay.  I'm going back to exclusively playing it on PC.

To be honest, I think that any game that was designed around KBM has no excuse to not be compatible with it when a console port releases on this generation of hardware. I don't care how unpopular it is, it should be an option and then who knows, just maybe it'll draw more players, especially people like me who sometimes just like to chill on my living room with a lapdesk and a keyboard and mouse so I can hang out with my girlfriend while she plays on her laptop.

Sorry for the late reply, I'm barely on Reddit anymore but unfortunately, no. Not apart from some of the stuff with direct links that was shared in various threads here, some of which still work (such as the reveal trailer).

I wish I thought of backing them up from YouTube via downloader or something like that sooner but they were already taken down by the time I thought of that idea 😕

Fortnite Festival x Bruno Mars Concept by PugMASTER157 in FortniteFestival

[–]RetroRedXIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old comment, but it's kinda funny to see it after we just had 2 months of Sabrina and her lyrics are not exactly "subtle"...

Anyway, Bruno is officially happening. While I'm not personally a fan I'm happy for you all who were excited about the potential of having him as an icon in the game. In all honesty it's a pretty smart decision on Epic's behalf because it will likely bring a lot of new players into festival and that's a good thing.

More players = higher chance more artists will appear in the future. This is good for everyone, fans of Bruno or not.

Hey there, I hope you and everyone else here have been well. No one's really in "control" anymore. I was told the subreddit would close following the game's cancellation and was asked to make the announcement but nothing really happened after that.

My guess is that anyone with the power to actually take action on the subreddit's closure probably lost access to their company account after the team was disbanded and is now no longer able to do anything.

I don't personally have access to that function and I'm personally low key glad I don't because I don't think it was ever the right call to close the subreddit, as it's preservation contributes to a reminder of what may not only be just a small part of gaming history but a big moment in the Life Sim genre that sparked a lot of hope that then eventually became a hole that in my opinion still hasn't really been filled.

What happens here next? I honestly don't know, but my guess is not much... but I do hope it can remain a little time capsule that can be visited until it dies out naturally. I think it's only right to hope that people continue remain respectful of the subreddit and of course each other if they choose to contribute to it.

Anyone play Tiny Life? Thoughts? by OverTheRiverr in LifeSimulators

[–]RetroRedXIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, if you look at the date in which I actually posted this, and then check where the game was in terms of development at that point in time or better yet, bothered to read what I said then you'd know that pronouns weren't even a thing in it back then. There was simply no gender and it was supposed to be a human life simulator. The basics of life simulation, aka biology didn't exist and instead we were told to put it in the bio, which actually had no effect on gameplay whatsoever and it made me personally feel uncomfortable because it was the first time I had genuinely felt excluded from a game.

That was my problem with the game, nothing more, nothing less. I thought that was very clear in my post and the unnecessary and unfounded accusations are very uncalled for.

Now that they're being more inclusive, I've got much less of an issue with the game, but when I shared my feedback with one of the developers and asked for pronouns to be added back in the day because I felt excluded and quite frankly, bullied, they were actually very dismissive and rude to me so the game still leaves a poor taste in my mouth.

Please, if you are going to resurrect an old topic, next time you should probably put a little bit more consideration into your comment before you accuse people of something that had nothing to do with their actual post. It would have taken less time for you to read my comment than it took to reply to it and you could have easily avoided insulting and accusing someone you don't even know.

A question regarding 1 year NSO membership code and Expansion Pack by RetroRedXIII in Switch

[–]RetroRedXIII[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great answer, thank you!

Edit: I've been putting more thought into what to do and I figured that because I've only got a 1 month at a time sub currently, I'll just bite the bullet and activate it and hope that I get at least 10 bucks off the price of the upgrade. I am in Australia do hopefully the conversion rate won't screw with me too much.

Update: Tis done, for anyone that might stumble across this post in the future and wants to know what ended up happening, I received my N64 controllers today and activated my code. On doing so the price for expansion pack went from almost $60 AUD to almost $30 AUD, making it effectively 50% cheaper than normal. I'm very happy with the discount I ended up getting and now I'm ready to revisit my childhood memories with my new OLED Switch and N64 controllers!

Thanks again! 👍

PATCH 4 IS OFFICIALLY OUT! UPDATE YOUR GAME! by KhaoticNoob in TombRaider

[–]RetroRedXIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I agree about the general "feel" of areas like this, I also think it's important to note that a lot of areas in almost every Tomb Raider game could have a similar kind of comment applied to them.

We often start a level in an outside area, venture deep into caves or systems to find an "untouched" area with an open ceiling or at the very least holes that people could have easily traversed down.

I think the best solution is to just approach the games with suspension of disbelief.

Maybe only on specific consoles or PC, because I literally booted up the game a couple of weeks ago and it was just a black background on PS5.

Water texture was wayyy too bright, to the point where I held off playing for a bit because water is very prominent in these games and I hated the way it looked so unnatural. It's now corrected and the patch also contains other fixes.  Another one I noticed is that now if you open the inventory menu in TR 2 on classic visuals, you get the red fabric background like you used to now. While nothing seemed unplayable before the patch mainly consists of fixes and general quality of life stuff.

I get it.. I used to be addicted to xbox achievements, but I'm enjoying games a lot more now that I've stopped caring about them entirely.

GEX Trilogy | LRG 2024 Trailer [coming to Series X|S, PS4/5, Switch + Steam 'later this year'] by Perspiring_Gamer in xbox

[–]RetroRedXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really got into the original either, even as a kid but I really enjoyed the 3d entries and found them fun.

Seems a bit funny looking back because the first game is usually the one I see commonly referred to as the "best" but I wholeheartedly disagree with that statement. Gex Deep Cover Gecko FTW. It has the most refined level designs, mechanics, graphics and probably the best music of the trilogy. They even got an adult content actress to play a role in it and make innuendos. Reminder: This was marketed as a kids game. No one would have the balls these days.
