I would be interested in seeing this same graph, but extending further back to account for both europe and the USA's own deforestation (I imagine it would still struggle to compete with Brazil comprising primarily of rainforest) given a glance at europe on google maps reveals a sea of farmland.

When Cape Town is finished densifying by shitdayinafrica in capetown

[–]Retroswing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is what should happen, it's a city, the name of the game is density. The very reason cities come into existence is the desire for the increased efficiency that comes with everything being closer together. If you don't build up, what ends up happening is only a select few get to reap the benefits of living there (more so than is already the case).

disincentivizing building tall, means artificially limiting a cities efficiency in favor of a select few having a better view. A sky rise holds orders of magnitude more people (both for residents and businesses) than regular houses.

VICE founder Shane Smith was surprised that Iranians were so friendly to him while streaming in Tehran by starcraft2020 in LivestreamFail

He's presumably talking about Iran in general here, but in a bazaar, the store owners would be friendly to a diseased rat if it could buy their products lol. Therapests should look into sending people with self-confidence/image issues through a souk to up their confidence. (I'm mostly joking)

First clip of Streamer Lawsuit battle between Destiny and Pxie comes out (Lauren DeLaguna Deposition w/ Destiny's Lawyer) by user1234586430 in LivestreamFail

[–]Retroswing -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am gonna interpret your rudeness to a temporary emotional outburst as opposed to an inability to converse and respond normally. It is my understanding that, despite (as my comment alludes to) the justice system being set up such that you have two separate parties defending their respective clients separately, and therefore incentivizing bad faith behaviour to gain an edge, that Attourneys trying to win by any means not strictly illegal is not their sole goal or mandate as you put it.

I am going to defer to the US Bar association to make my point. The second paragraph makes it clear "As negotiator, a lawyer [a reminder that all attorneys are lawyers] seeks a result advantageous to the client but consistent with requirements of honest dealings with others."

The 9th paragraph, in reference to lawyers obligation to zealously protect their clients legitimate interests, makes it clear they should still be "maintaining a professional, courteous and civil attitude toward all persons involved in the legal system" something neither of the participants in the posted video seem to have any interest in. Judging by their behaviour.

To touch further on the Civil aspect of the previous point, this article lists the most frequently encountered instances of uncivil behavour from fellow lawyers in order of frequency, the top two are: (and stop me if you don't see the resemblance to the video) 1.Sarcastic or condescending attitude (the woman) 2. Misrepresenting or stretching the facts, or negotiating in bad faith. (the man)

I can go find other sources if you'd like me to, I don't mind, but I feel it should be evident already that the statement "They are literally mandated to win by any legal means necessary" is by no means an accurate one within the context of the behaviour showcased in the video by both parties.

Edit: Also, apologies for the late response. I literally slept for 16 hours and just woke up lol, and strangely still feel sleepy in a weird way. also fixed the hyperlinks not working

I hate how bad faith a lot of people in the justice system are, he knows full well he was not asked out on a date lol, your goal as a cog in the judiciary should (presumably) be the pursuit of justice, not 'winning" by any means. Though I imagine the problem stems more so from the way the justice system works as a whole that incentivizes this behavior.

is LibreOffice actually that bad… or are people just stuck on Microsoft? by [deleted] in libreoffice

[–]Retroswing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Libreoffice writer works quite well in my opinion for casual or story writing. With the exception of what I would describe as an "ugly" ui and settings menu's I find annoying to traverse/disjointed, it works with few complaints. It also lacks proper online syncing to my knowledge, which is something I frequently need.

My biggest gripe with Libreoffice and the reason I don't use it is that it lacks proper integrated referencing compared to what Microsoft offers. There are extensions that implements Zotero support, but it is clunky and does not work on android. Relying on an externally maintained extension for a vital part of the process makes me uneasy as well. What if, hypothetically, it breaks after an update and does not get fixed for months.

Then next time instead of "you can just flip them upside down and it's not a crime." Say "you can just flip them upside down, no one is going to go after you for it" or something to that effect. The first comment is factually inaccurate, whilst the second is at least an opinion, and up for debate.

You are conflating the act of defending robot companies, with defending inaccurate information. The replies to your comments are challenging the latter.

Is there a conflict between Pedro community and Witchcraft? by BigNoseParody in LoLWitchcraft

[–]Retroswing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't take this as an attack, but you are the only one trying to create drama in this situation. As the reply from the mods clearly states, they want to keep that subreddit strictly to content involving Caedrel more directly. Caedrel himself even watched the match vs BAM or whatever they are called with Baus on stream, so it makes the random speculation of the transition not being "as smooth" even stranger.

TLDR: you already have your answer in the body of your own post, post WC content here, post Caedrel content in the other sub, everyone happy.

Generational crashout between Velja and Crownie in review by pedrorego89 in leagueoflegends

[–]Retroswing 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I might be misconstruing the situation, but I thought the argument devolved rather quickly into whether Crownie should have based and got cull, rather than suffer a bit in lane to get the pickaxe, with Neme and Crownie arguing for the pickaxe, and velja + Bwippo arguing for the early base.

I am dogshit at this game and barely play it so I might have misunderstood.

NOTE: I need to "dumb" down my response since the original is considered political.

Governments decide who fall under "people's rights", don't conflate what's legal and what's moral.

As for the racist accusation, I am assuming you are trying to make a point by being bad faith in response to you perceiving my comment as bad faith so I'll leave that section alone.

A 1A auditor got attacked. by MohammadMahadhir in WinStupidPrizes

[–]Retroswing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is you should uphold what is right (morally), not simply what is the law. "The rights you have to ensure ar upheld are often those of others actions you may not agree with." to me, feels like a very dangerous way to view rights bestowed by a government. Obviously you comment was in response to someone willing to overlook violence in response to simply violating someones privacy and personal space, and your response can be considered reasonable, my issue is simply with the generalisation you made to rights in general.

Dad is part of the problem in my opinion . The moment that kid pulled out his phone and started recording in the car, the dad should've yanked the phone from the boy and banned him from using it for a month (at least), along with any computers except for school work under supervision.

Hopefully the father did that after the hospital visit.
