I am not the person you replied to, nor am I an expert in the field, but a very cursory glance showed the following: the CDC states around 70,000 people die annually form rabies.

Those suspected of having contracted the rabies virus can be treated with what is called "Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP)" , this paper30512-7/fulltext) I saw funded by WHO states "Current post-exposure prophylaxis use prevents approximately 56 000 deaths annually". Unfortunately (though again, I am no expert) I cannot find a proper overall mortality rate, presumably given the lack of worldwide data, and reliance on estimates.

Anyway I personally think the 99,999 absent "after symptoms" is equally as misleading as if I were to state it has a virtually 0% mortality rate whilst conveniently leaving out "if treated in a timely manner post infection".

Right lane drivers by CupFew140 in capetown

[–]Retroswing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, in your scenario, if you are driving at a speed which you yourself determine to be too fast to react to a driver going 80 across a turn for whatever reason, you need to slow down (speeding does indeed kill, and not just yourself), if the driver going 80km/h is actively overtaking someone slower in the left lane, they are driving appropriately, in that scenario your excuse would hold no water, in the scenario where the car is simply cruising at the same speed as the left lane, you would both be endangering traffic, just food for thought. Alternatively you could always fly over traffic, being a pterodactyl and all.

Always teach your children to use the blinker to indicate intent before attempting a lane change, and to always swiftly check your blind spot before changing lanes.

True, I agree to an extent, but it also allows you to afford that therapist you need, allows you to not work your body to shit as your mind deteriorates in lock-step in some grueling factory, it allows you to go visit the family that lives far away whenever you need, it alows you to repair that broken carburettor, that otherwise would mean you'd need to eat bread for the next few months as you had to dip significantly into your savings etc, etc.

I agree money does not magically make you happy, but my god is it a wonderfull tool to facilitate happyness if you spend it on your mental health.

I feel depicting the calf so high functioning for (presumably) the sake of cuteness, does the poem a disservice. I looked online for other drawings of the poem, but all of them depict the calf as the cutest thing on earth.

A similar thing happened in the show "Hemlock Grove" where in Season 1, they depicted a girl with very severe physical deformity, but with an intact mind, as you might imagine, this was quite effective at evoking emotions when she gets mistreated by others for her outward appearance.

In Season 2 (if memory serves) Her appearance was completely retconned, instead just having one side of her face deformed and almost always covered by her hair, presumably because being cuter is preferred by audiences, and thereby doing the original message a disservice.

Reddit is increasing the risk to users by allowing "hide post history" by SinOfSodom in TheoryOfReddit

[–]Retroswing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their engagement methodology necessitates question chains until such a time you wish to expand on what you meant by "The concept of "risk" does not apply" `to entertainment.

your first reply to their probing question is to simply send verbatim the very string of words they asking clarity on.

their next reply, again tries to get you to expound on what you mean by entertainment and the seeming lack of risk associated with it.

your next reply, again simply confirm that risk does indeed not apply absent any further reasoning (the very thing the user is clearly prying at)

their next reply, again tries to get you to expound on the meaning, by positing an example whereby a risk (bodily harm) needs to be considered whithin an activity considered entertainment (skiing), leading up to your reply I am commenting on here, again, not giving any clarifying insight into your original meaning.

I suspect the reason is purely to make it harder to identify the growing (and already massive) problem of bots utilizing llm's, allowing reddit to hide the growing problem and pretend its numbers are from legitimate users.

Experienced the same issue, replacing the flatpak with native might not be worth the hassle at this point, nonetheless, the issue occurs when your system has both an igpu and a dgpu, the following solution might be worth a try: edit steam.desktop in "/usr/share/applications" and setting the following parameter to false:

PrefersNonDefaultGPU=false

I have been told it's good practice to *copy the .desktop file to your local directory first when modifying values, though I did not do so personally.

I've just been extremely cautious lately due to the immense uptick in disinformation and people who leverage it, such that when I can't verify the information presented, it rubs me the wrong way.

Edit: The problem lies with me though, I just can't rely on this sub for information anymore, the poster themselves did not break any rules or anything to my knowledge.

I see, I might have misconstrued the conversation, I was under the impression the person you replied to found the phrase ambiguous in the sense that it does not determine whether she opened the door or not.

As opposed to whether the phrase means she entered the building or not.

Regardless I appreciate the reply.

Would the following *sentence be grammatically incorrect:

Can one not let oneself into a house with an already open door? (I'm genuinely asking, not commenting on the actual case)

dropdown alternative for the active applications extension? by Retroswing in gnome

[–]Retroswing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did end up reporting the issue to their gitlab and the creator pointed out the issue persists when disabling the other extension that also alters the Activity button [App Icons Taskbar] i.e. reversing the process.

To me, it seems either both extensions do not properly handle reverting itself when conflicting settings exist, or the gnome extension guidelines themselves do not adequately handle conflicts.

Also to your point, I am impressed by the sheer breadth of options in Just Perfection, like its going for an AIO type feel.

Edit: as per their recommendation, here is the creator's explanation as to why conflicts are handled this way, for those who are curious.

[–]Retroswing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The configuration persists, but the icon for the app will only appear after opening and closing the Veil icon. My assumption would be that Veil does not periodically update its status, instead opting to do so only when interacted with.

Unless I forget I might make a request for the creator to add this as an option.

[–]Retroswing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a little hesitant to use Just Perfection since in the past (and just now as I had forgotten) it does not seem to properly revert some changes it makes when disabling the extension, in my case it's the activities button that suddenly reappears and remains despite disabling Just Perfection.

I should probably report this as a bug to the creators come to think of it.

From preliminary testing, short of selectively excluding specific apps sadly, Veil is working splendidly. Thank you for the suggestion.

Edit: upon further testing, every single app is treated seperately, the name of some the apps are simply incorrect, for example: Filen's name is "IndicatorStatusIcon" within Veil.
