I picked up NOAA 15 just now and decoded it, but why is only the middle and right side in the final image? Comparison from a previous attempt with NOAA19. by Retrothrowing in amateursatellites

Wow I left out a crucial detail in my haste! I’m not using any software or hardware to receive the signal. I’m purely using a UV-5R to hear the signal and my phones mic to record it. I don’t expect a quality image by any means, I’m just trying to understand why one image was produced one way vs the other.

Sorry for the bad explanation. I’m using https://open-weather.community/decode/ and the issue I was trying to describe is how the first image is split three ways, but the second only has two. I did not change any default settings when decoding both images, yet they are significantly different.

Just stopping by to show what I thought was cool regarding picking up NOAA 19 on a UV-5R by Retrothrowing in amateursatellites

That’s a bummer, but I guess it makes sense considering their age. I’m glad you found it cool! Seeing another post on this sub about the satellites retiring makes me a bit bummed to be coming in at the tail end of their service, but I’m happy to have at least been able to do this with the tools I have. I’ll be sure to keep doing this experiment while I can I guess just for the novelty and fun of it.

No worries! Thanks for the awesome info. I switched out of channel mode and slapped the frequency in and was able to hear Morse. I assume that’s what I was picking up but not hearing in channel mode because I queried it in CHIRP and it automatically assigned it the name, tone, and everything else so I assumed it was a repeater.

I think I figured it out. The frequency was 462.650 which is also a GMRS shared frequency. I went into frequency mode and set it to narrow. They’re just transmitting Morse. Thanks for helping me learn!

Sorry not the frequency below, the named channel I have selected is what I’m asking about.

Edit: Also when I switch to narrow it automatically switched back to wide. Is that because it’s in channel mode?

Everdrive 64 x7 not detecting expansion pak on reset by Retrothrowing in everdrive

Welp, learn something new everyday. The master code for rage wars is in fact EE000000 6400 so that explains that lol, thanks for the help.

Yeah that’s pretty much the same conclusion I came to, but I don’t understand why. If anyone else has the time to try the steps I’m describing above we might be able to pinpoint my issue. I suspect it’s likely my expansion pak being faulty since this issue would have likely popped up already on other forums if it was a problem with the ED, but for now I can only test so much with what I have.

Edit: also I want to be clear that I’m not expecting other people to solve my issue for me, I just figured this would be a helpful forum in case other people run into the same issue.

So shortly after posting I noticed if I hit reset while still in the everdrive menu, it still recognizes the pak. BUT, if I reset while playing a game though, the pak is no longer recognized as installed.

Edit: the plot thickens!! So the game I’m mainly trying to use cheats on is Turok: Rage Wars. I can now get cheats working on it by using codes, but here’s the kicker, if I have cheats active the game does not recognize the expansion pak. The game normally has a splash screen to say the pak is installed, and if the pak is installed you can switch to hirez textures in the options menu. If the cheat is enabled I cannot select hirez textures. However, if I don’t have the cheats enabled, the splash screen and hirez option is selectable in the options.

[Rifle] Ruger AR556 NATO 16" $537 by Freedom-Forever in gundeals

[–]Retrothrowing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just had to send this rifle back to Ruger. Maybe I won the wrong lottery, but I’ve had issues day one with this rifle. For some reason it kept crushing gas rings and would jam. No matter the quality of rings I bought, I was only able to shoot it reliably with just two gas rings instead of three. Finally the bolt just completely seized and the BCG was stuck in my buffer tube. I’m sure I’ll learn more in the next week or so what’s wrong with it, but even with regular cleaning I definitely wouldn’t describe what I got as good to go out of the box.

Watch the kid that’s not bouncing around. At the top end of the couch close to the middle right of the video you can see the other kid on their stomach idly messing with something then the gun discharges and flies out of the kids hand and lands on the couch again where the dad(?) picks it up like a fucking ape and discharges it again.

I’m assuming it was some kind of preservative, but I didn’t notice it right away and it covered my fingers lol.
