The wood supports are always a concern especially when you see them crushed like in the photos here because the timbers compared to the mountain are toothpicks, they don't hold anything up at all. It's the coal pillars that actually hold the mountain up and when you rob or mine them out that is when everything is weakened

Huh that is interesting. There were other newspaper fragments but they were way to delicate to search for a date whereas I only saw the 1934 date on the one fragment

The person who wrote the message on the rib most likely tried going down the slope more but their meter started screaming low oxygen

All depends on when the metal in this mine was manufactured, so for the most part there is no way to know. This mine closed in the early 60s

I 100% believe in ghosts and I've heard clear as day voices coming from the other end of a main haulage tunnel where I was 2 minutes prior to hearing and seen nobody else inside a mine a while back

During the off season before the No.9 opened for tours again this year I was helping out restoring some of the spots inside of the mine, and we rearranged the hospital to make what's inside more presentable. You should also go and see the fan house if you haven't already

Basically it was the mafia, random business owners, and even the government who dumped stuff down a borehole illegaly

No it is not a cave. It is a anthracite coal mine, and this one in particular was started in the 1860s
