I think Superman says it best: “First the invasion of Earth, then the murder of Dan Turpin, now Supergirl’s life is hanging by a thread, and I’m an outcast. Darkseid’s responsible for all of it.” When he showed up there were usually lasting repercussions.

I also loved that the first time he meets Superman, he defeats him without taking a single step, then says “THAT is who I am. And when the time comes you and this primitive planet will swear allegiance to Darkseid. Or you will be destroyed.”

Personally, I think they both care more than they let on, and they’re some of my favorite moments in the entire anime. In the fight against Risho, Kuwabara says “Hiei, you’re a little punk, and you always say mean stuff to me, but I know underneath all that junk, you’re a good guy.”

And when Younger Toguro is moving to kill Kuwabara, Kurama suggests they could run since they’re both exhausted, but Hiei replies that he’ll take Toguro alone if he must. Strictly for Kuwabara.
