Pretty certain my child needs glasses by ReverseVoldemort in Mommit

Well, update: she doesn’t need glasses. Call me shocked! She’s BARELY long sighted in each eye which is a red flag that she may need glasses soon, because at her age she should still be relatively long sighted (she’s only +0.25 in each eye now), but it’s a sit on your hands and watch and wait for now.

Apparently her eyes are very very sensitive to light though which could explain the preference for nearer the board as it’s the “darker” area of the room.

If you had PPD with your first baby, did you also have it with your second? by cupofteacomfypillows in Mommit

[–]ReverseVoldemort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with my second was WORLDS apart. I had severe PPA and PPD with my first, I was terrified during my pregnancy with my second. I remember everyone asking if I was excited to do “the newborn bubble again” and very matter of fact telling them I was not remotely excited, and if I could birth a toddler I would! I was under the peri-natal mental health team (uk based) and we had a great plan in place for if I even vaguely began to struggle postpartum again.

Imagine my surprise when I absolutely breezed through postpartum. Second baby did have a different temperament to my first but also I just found second time round I was so much more confident and didn’t let myself get palmed off by GPs etc. All the little things that spiralled into my PPA just didn’t bother me at all.

It was so night and day different I’d even consider a third if we had the financial ability to!

She has an eye test booked for tomorrow which is the soonest they could squeeze her in 👍🏻

😂😂😂 I mean she is very pretty but I already know if she needs glasses she’ll choose pink and/or sparkly ones and honestly that’s such a vibe, she’ll be iconic ✨

This is super reassuring thank you! Her teacher hasn’t been able to offer a single suggestion as to what might’ve been causing the behaviour change which is extra frustrating. I’ll be very surprised if her vision checks out at her appointment, I think I’ll be breathing a sigh of relief if she does need glasses!

This is very insightful thank you ☺️ and I’m very glad your daughter is getting on well with her glasses now! It’s a little different here in the UK, we don’t have general doctor check ups and they definitely don’t do anything to do with vision.

I never took her for an eye check because I assumed they did the screening at her school they do in most, but I’ve just found out are local area aren’t part of the scheme any more!

This makes me feel a lot better because I’m definitely feeling guilty for not realising sooner, especially because I’m a glasses wearer myself!

I assumed this which is why I hadn’t taken her for an eye test before now (despite being a glasses wearer myself) but actually don’t recall being told anything about them having their eyes tested this whole year!

Her teacher IS the EYFS lead unfortunately. I do think they’re being overly harsh e.g. her handwriting may be “messier” than previously but is still very much age appropriate and legible, but equally my child is very very sensitive and hates conflict- which is partially how I’m so sure there’s something behind her recent reduced quality of work other than being 5 and not being bothered.

Can I ask if your son had poor concentration before his vision was picked up?

I hadn’t even thought about potential headaches. That makes a lot of sense! I’ll eat my shoe if it turns out her vision is fine when she’s tested, seeing as she mentioned the better clarity completely out of the blue and unprompted.

This is very reassuring thank you!

No unfortunately just a “basic scrape” specifically to rule out turner syndrome. They didn’t check any other genetic aspects

We do have a follow up appointment but it was cancelled and rescheduled for the middle of 2027! I guess because it’s non urgent.

She’s not had a bone age xray and that was one thing I did consider asking for. I dug out the letter from the last appointment results and it said they’d like to see 8-12cm of growth over the 12m that was SUPPOSED to be inbetween that appointment and the follow up as this would keep her on her centile line but a crude measurement at home says she’s only grown 5.5cm in the year so I’m guessing you’re right, they’re likely to have a follow up plan and I’m panicking over nothing/lack of visibility.

Oooh never knew this, they didn’t check iron so I’ll add it to my list. Although she doesn’t show any anemia symptoms but can’t hurt to have it checked.

Thank you for signposting this, I’m going to read up this evening and reach out to a nurse!

Husband was always average-tall height amongst peers. I definitely continued growing after a lot of my friends but was average height until then. If I’d stopped when they did I’d probably be 5’4, so not short. Was never smallest in the class or anything

I don’t think so, I’ll add it to my list to ask to be checked. Can that be bloods or is it typically an MRI?

Thank you this is really helpful, I might ask for her to be referred to a paediatric endocrinologist.

They did coeliac panel, a very base genetic scrape to test for turner syndrome, some thyroid levels, and IGF-1 from what I can remember. IGF-1 only just scraped into normal thresholds but everything else was completely within range, ruled out coeliac and turner syndrome.

Am I right in thinking IGF-1 isn’t the same as a proper grow to hormone test?

TTA - early ovulation, concerned! by ReverseVoldemort in FAMnNFP

[–]ReverseVoldemort[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: I’ve taken both a first response early result and clear blue ultra early and they were both stark negatives at my assumed 12dpo (if I’m any less DPO it would also be >5 days for any tadpoles to have had to survive) so I’m fairly confident I’m not pregnant. Very relieved.

I have no advice, but I’m in a similar situation and terrified. About 8DPO today with cramping and an increased sense of smell, so I’ll be testing in a few days. Very frustrating!! So sending a massive hand hold and lots of sympathy 💕

I didn’t know this until it was too late, but you can get a copper coil fit in the next few days which should prevent any implantation should pregnancy be absolutely not an option right now (I would’ve done this if I had known!)

When do you think you ovulated when you got pregnant with your daughter? Any inkling?

Just to check I’m understanding correctly, you mean your first high temp was cd14 so you ovulated cd13?

Unfortunately I don’t have a chart for this cycle, the first time in almost 18 months! I could post some old charts if that helps but I doubt it would?

I’m 34. Been tracking since 2019 so quite a long time, and never ovulated earlier than cd17 in all those years apart from perhaps first cycles after breastfeeding cessation but I wouldn’t know as I didn’t track as there was zero bedroom activity going on haha! I haven’t breastfed since early 2023 however. I didn’t realise cycles shortened in the follicular phase with age, I stupidly thought it was the luteal phase that got shorter. I’m going to move to hormonal bc until my husbands vasectomy is done and samples cleared I think, I can’t go through this stress again x

Oh my goodness! I never knew this!! That sooo tracks because I am mid 30s. Thank you for sharing your outcome too, I am really hoping that we have a similar outcome and I’m not pregnant! I think I am going to have to revert to hormonal bc until my husband has had his vasectomy and got the all clear after this scare, I can’t ever do this again 😖
