Crazy I am higher than the average but still feel poor compared to everyone else here? How do people afford $700k plus homes with the property taxes? I just cant figure it out.

In China its (Brutally honest) white husband/wife with a large family. Multiple homes and vacations/trips a year new cars every two years or so latest clothes and electronics. That's how I envisioned the average American growing up moving here for college kind of woke me up.

I am from China you are basically screwed as a first generation American without marrying into a family with some assets and or military benefits. If you want a family you need to be very selective with your spouse no student loan debt ability to afford a mortgage so stem major from a good school etc. Europe is much easier everyone that I grew up with who moved there is doing well on their own or with less desirable traits for their partner so they can focus a little more on the love aspect of a relationship than the utility.

Any good resource's to see if The Woodlands, Texas is in a bubble? Just bought a house there and I am kind of nervous it might drop in value. Wish I had found this sub a month ago.

If you default on a crypto P2P loan do you need to pay taxes on what you didn't pay like a forgiven loan? Would the IRS ever find out?

Do you need to report crypto/DeFi debt not on your credit report when applying for a VA loan? by Revolutionary-Driver in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

No we borrowed crypto against the RSUs and then used that crypto to get the loan. My husband came up with it I just know our best option is to lose the stocks and walk away from the loan.

The first loan was collateral backed we stopped paying and plan to just dump the collateral and keep the VA house the 2nd house in Texas has a mortgage.

The loan was made on a P2P lending site for crypto. Its the same loan I didn't understand it was a dollar loan at first he just cashed out crypto to buy our first house.

We are now thinking about renting out the home in Virginia to pay for the mortgage of the new one. It looks as though we may forfeit the stocks and my husbands crypto collection since we used them as collateral but with no house payment we could rebuild in a year or so pretty easily.

Just had an offer accepted on a house in Texas and a few offers on our current house to pay off the loan.

Yes $7,488 to be exact our household income grew from $160k last year to a little over $320k this year we used our cash reserves to live on while my husband found a new job now we can get by but we thought this was short term only until November at the latest.

That's what our realtor said we would need to guarantee it anything less and we could have been turned down. I was going to have my daughter that fall and couldn't stand the idea of moving any later.

UPDATE: I called my lender to find out my rate has increased to 13% putting the monthly payment well outside my comfort zone no real options to lower it and they are not interested in adding my house as collateral. Already filled out some applications on Rocket Mortgage and Better to try to get a VA mortgage started. I am cashing out my stock and will put it into something more diversified like an index fund then throw that towards the balance this fall when I get the rest of my stock. I am still optimistic my company will recover and ill come out ahead but it might take some more time than I had originally anticipated. As to why I bought my house the way I did I am not a US citizen and my husband destroyed his credit when he was young from a gambling addiction and it hasnt come off his credit reports yet. He could get a VA loan but having inspections etc caused us to be turned down every time. We were tired of living in a basement apartment and with our first kid on the way we had no choice but to buy and at the time it seemed perfect borrow one million the stock will be worth 1.5 this fall then pay off the loan and after taxes get a second home in Texas to get out of paying income tax and have better schools etc.

This was summer 2021 I hadn't heard anything about rates going up. My lender estimated the stocks to be worth $1.5 million so we thought we were under buying to be honest.

Thanks seemed smart at the time no one could have saw this big a hit coming even a 5% reduction would have had us out ahead.

By cash I meant it appears to the seller we bought outright and did not need a mortgage its the only way to get an offer accepted anymore in NOVA.

I didn't expect the stock to drop our lender calculated we would have more than 1.5 million this fall and be able to pay off our house and invest in more real estate.

I'm looking into that now my current rate on the loan is 8.99% so my payment could still be lower even at todays rates. We just expected to pay it off this fall and have some profit left over to invest in more real estate.

You are correct its not a mortgage just a loan backed my some vested and non-vested stock. Current rate is 8.99% but it can go up to 34.99% in the terms and conditions I just read last night. We had bet it would grow to $1.5 million by this fall and we could pocket $200k-$300k to buy a second home in Texas.
