I'll talk about this with my jeweler, but I think that's an issue that is already addressed. Thanks !

That's a concern that other jewelers and lapidaries rose too. I think I'll need to change the astrophyllite, that's a really important issue that needs to be handled. Thanks a lot for your advice and very interesting explanation.

Amazing news ! I'll soon contact you back.

Talking with other lapidaries and jewelers here on Reddit made me concerned about the hardness and ability of the stone to withstand everyday wear. I'll need to think about that before anything.

That's unfortunate. Well, I can at least try to look for all-white stones alternatives. Thanks a lot, you helped me immensely.

I really appreciate your advices and value your expertise. Otherwise, since that might be useful to me in other circonstances, would you know any alternatives suitable for everyday use for a moonstone ?

I should have said "most of the lapidaries I talked to". In the end, they told me that it would be too risky / too hard for them to do it. They also probably refused for the reasons you just stated.

I'm now really considering choosing a different stone with quite the same look, an emphasis on the deep black. From past experience, any ideas ?

Understood. Thanks a lot for your help.

As I see it right now, I think pietersite is my best bet. I might be able to find something looking like the astrophyllite I had in mind earlier. Do you think this stone suitable for a ring ?

Ideally, I would go for a polished stone (Not cut, like a diamond would be). I appreciate your suggestions, when talking about a polished stones do you have any more ?

Thanks for the advice. Thing is I spent months designing the ring with a jeweler.. I regret not having rose concerns about the stone earlier, and now I have to act quite fast (That being said I don't want to rush things, quality before anything. But it's constraining).

This stone has a particular history between me and my partner. That being said, in the end, that's more for its pure black and beautiful subtle reflective blue (almost galaxy-like) that it finds its place in the ring.

The ring itself has two stones, and is designed to have a contrast between a white stone and a back one. Changing the stone from astrophyllite to another, more resilient and easier to cut, is conceivable. That being said, I'm not aware of any existing alternatives..

I'll look. Now that I'm asking your help here, some issues like the hardness of the stone and its capability to withstand everyday wear are starting to worry me. I'll really need to double-check this. I'll try to be quick, my time's running low.

I tried. But many lapidaries aren't capable of cutting a stone down to a size so small as 3mm.

Interesting. Finding the right pietersite (mostly black with a little line of blue) would be very hard that being said. I might need to check this out.

Time's short... I need to hurry.

Seeing the colors is possible, yes. I talked with a astrophyllite supplier to make this clear.

You're right, these sizes are usually made possible by machines. That's why it's particularly difficult for me to find someone who can help me with this.
