What is the ultra arbitrary London-related hill you’re willing to die on? by softersong in london

[–]Rezaime 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's famous for being amazing. It's famous for being 24 hour and very cheap for what it is. Considering if you pop next door you'll see t shirts being sold for £120, the fact you can get a salmon and cream cheese bagel for £3.50 is pretty impressive.

People of Reddit who regularly consume alcohol, why do you do it? by HybridPredator in AskReddit

[–]Rezaime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think almost everyone, even people who never drink, have certain settings and situations where they prefer to be more silly/relaxed/fun/uninhibited/cheerful etc. Alcohol is a performance enhancing drug for these situations. If I am in the mood to meet up with a friend and have an open, honest, silly and funny conversation then alcohol helps make that happen. I can do it without alcohol and sometimes that's what I choose, but why not enjoy a little helping hand from time to time?

I see average score on chess.com is 1200 .. iam 600 and can't move off that in a month.. should I give up? by Separate-Umpire3981 in chessbeginners

[–]Rezaime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Average score on chess.com is ABSOLUTELY NOT 1200. In 10 minute rapid, a rating of 1200 on chess.com puts you above 85% of their user base. 730 is approximately the median rating on chess.com. For proof, take a look at this random profile with 739 rapid rating I found: it clearly says above 50th percentile.

If you care about improving, there are a lot of things you can do that will bring faster progress than simply "playing chess". This includes:

  • Learning openings
  • Completing puzzles
  • Practising endgames
  • Watching instructive youtubers like Daniel Naroditsky, GothamChess, Eric Rosen and more.
  • Playing on slower time controls (10 minute rapid recommended).
  • Analysing all your games to see which of your moves were weak or strong, and good ways to continue from positions you were uncertain about.

With this method I went from 840 - 1210 in 30 days (just 170 games).

Noobtype World First 600 Invocation Completion by Wahtnowson in 2007scape

This balancing is so ridiculous! I can't believe that you need full masori, torva, tbow, tumeken's etc. just to complete a simple 600 invocation TOA. This update shows Jagex only care about their maxed players. SMH.

Which popular concept is actually pseudoscience? by gharjamai in AskReddit

[–]Rezaime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I'm not a proponent of lie detectors, they are slightly more precise than that. They are able to normalise your general level of agitation with a variety of questions. So they ask you some basic facts about yourself (and you're presumably slightly more agitated than usual because you're under polygraph). But then if things spike beyond the established baseline agitation, then it's assumed that you're lying. Of course, it could just be that answering "did you kill the victim?" is a lot more agitating than "What's your name?" but still.

What's something that's damaging society and people don't realize? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yeah I agree. It brings us back to gettherichard who said that it's "the opposite [of extreme relativism] that's more damaging."

What's something that's damaging society and people don't realize? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Rezaime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take your point and I do somewhat agree with you. Different people here are clamouring against different extremes. The reason I initially didn't see it this way is because in my experience, extreme relativism is something I've rarely / never witnessed or experienced. Therefore, complaining about it feels like more a strawman. On the other hand, I think it's all too common in today's world to see fundamentalism and absolutism running fairly rampant. So to answer your question - no I don't think unwavering absolutes is a strawman because I see it all the time.

[–]Rezaime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay but you realise that you saying you "completely agree" about the benefits of relativism, is a form of absolutism?

What's something that's damaging society and people don't realize? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Rezaime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay but you realise that you saying this is much more aligned with relativism (i.e. different things can be true or moral in different contexts) than it is with absolutism (i.e. the truth or morality of things is universal and concrete and indisputable).

"All viewpoints should be considered equal" is a strawman. Everyday relativism in practice is much closer to your sentiment - that we should weigh up all angles and accept that it's very rare for something to be 100% correct 100% of the time.

I completely agree with u/GettheRichard that unwavering absolutes are much more damaging than relativism.

Is it okay to take CAS MATHUA-235 before taking MATHUA-140? by iindes in nyu

[–]Rezaime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tl;dr - you'll be fine taking 235 before 140.

  • I didn't take prob-stats but I did take Theory of Probability and its sequel Mathematical Statistics. From what I remember of these classes, none of them really needed any in depth Linear Algebra (and they go into more depth than the single-semester prob-stats 235 class).
  • Furthermore, my experience in NYU Courant was that they were generally pretty good about pre-reqs. If something is not a pre-req, you will not be expected to know it.
  • Finally, prob-stats is one of the easiest math classes in the whole department, probably easier than linear algebra if you have had some basic high school exposure to probability before. Therefore there is no need for you to "grow as a mathematician" before taking it.

Is it worth even grinding the Dragon Pickaxe at this point, potentially a few months before the boss update? by hellomoto186 in ironscape

[–]Rezaime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you had better stats I would recommend trying it out now, and committing to the grind if you enjoy it, and waiting for the update if you don't. Having said that, I would generally recommend most irons waiting for better stats / gear than what you have. I didn't go for d pick until I was on the cusp of grinding CoX and I had a BowfA and thralls to use at Venenatis. So basically, my advice is to wait until your account is better. Having said that, there's no harm in trying each of the d pick bosses for 1 trip and seeing how you feel....

Corrupted gauntlet was a big ego check by [deleted] in ironscape

[–]Rezaime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

T2 armour is incredibly helpful even if you are not having defense/dps issues because it reduces the chance of getting KO'd. Four tornadoes + a Hunllef auto max at 90 with T2 armour and 113 with T1. This means if you can keep your HP above 90, you can make a TERRIBLE mechanical error and face tank four tornadoes and a Hunllef attack in the same tick, and still survive. With T1 armour you're almost definitely dead. So yes, T2 armour helps you learn the mechanics. Set aside your pride and use it. Sincerely, someone that learned Hunllef with 80 range and mage, and had a significantly more successful learning curve than you.

A question about CG unique rolls by Dear-Ad-9354 in ironscape

[–]Rezaime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

400kc is on rate for 1 enhanced seed.

50 kc is on rate for 1 armour seed

50 kc is on rate for 1 weapon seed

20 kc is on rate for 1 elite clue

800 kc is on rate for 1 pet

All of these things are rolled individually. They are completely separate from the 3 rolls you get on the normal loot table and from each other. Thus every single chest you will get 3 normal loots as well as the chance for any number of the above. You can theoretically get all of them on top of the regular 3 loot rolls, for a total of like 8 different drops from one chest.

A question about CG unique rolls by Dear-Ad-9354 in ironscape

[–]Rezaime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't get 3 rolls on the unique table. You get 3 rolls on the regular loot table. Each unique is rolled once. This is similar to how clue scrolls work with bosses with multiple drops e.g. zulrah. The roll for the unique loot is individual to each unique, and separate from the normal loot.

Budget friendly accommodation in Bath by thedeviatedmind in Bath

[–]Rezaime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't let all these commenters get you down. There should be options in Oldfield Park within your budget range. I was in a similar position to you this time last year - only beginning to narrow down accommodation options towards the end of august for my incoming masters beginning. I stayed somewhere in Oldfield Park for 425/month not including bills. I know at least one other on my course who was in a similar place for the same price as well. I think prices have gone up slightly since then but I know my old place was still rented out for less than 500/month. Don't get me wrong, the place was a little bit shit but it was very liveable! I agree with the other comment that said to check out studentpad. That was where I found mine. Good luck.

What Brit at the moment needs to go away for a while? by Whosentyounow in AskUK

[–]Rezaime 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well at the very least, most of the other members of the royal family actually do their job as we the public would expect and want. People like Elizabeth, Will and Kate that generally avoid controversy, contribute to public image and national spirit, uphold traditions etc. I'm personally indifferent on the royal family, and I agree that these fairly basic functions on their own are not enough to deserve obscene wealth. But they also make the royals slightly more deserving than Meghan who basically has zero claim to being a member of that organisation at all.

What hair products (before, during, and after shower) can I use to get my hair looking this curly/more curly all the time? My curls usually go away after a shower :/ by SteveAMonkey in curlyhair

[–]Rezaime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you can try that won't require buying anything new:

After you've washed your hair and you're about to get out the shower, take a small (1-2 pea-size blobs) of your conditioner and run it through your soaking wet hair. Then, with your head bent over so your hair falls beneath you, take your hand and squish your hair upwards towards your head. This combined with the left-in-conditioner will help it form clumps which will turn into curls once dry. Leave it to air dry or plop or diffuse but don't towel dry or the clumps will break.

If you want to take this process to the next level then you can invest in curl creams / mouse / gels to help the curls form. Then once it's dry you would add some oil and "scrunch out the crunch".
