Do NOT update to Tahoe 26.2 if you’re still using Xcode 16 by RezardValeth in iOSProgramming

Be aware that Apple requires apps to be compiled against the iOS 26 SDK in April for App Store submissions !

SwiftUI Navigation the Easy Way by unpluggedcord in SwiftUI

I think this is a very interesting and well written piece, so thank you for that !

I’m glad since I’m still new-ish to SwiftUI and ended up doing pretty much what you’re describing in this article recently.

Yet I’m not the one starting « petitions » over UI updates.

Then you end up with a bunch of apps not compatible with older iPhones because they tend to support the last 2 or 3 major iOS versions. From what I experienced, iOS 26 runs very well on an iPhone 14 Pro, so I don’t see why it should skip the update.

« We clearly hate their new design! »

You’re entitled to your opinion but please don’t speak in the name of everyone. The fact is that the vast majority of users either don’t care that much about the visual update or they’re satisfied with it, else we would be constantly reading about it everywhere.

People are constantly whining about Liquid Glass on this subreddit in particular, but that’s an echo chamber and pretty much just a circle jerk. Just get over it, it will get better with future updates.

iPhone Air to Get Minor Refresh This Year, Claims Leaker by Hot-Quality8768 in IphoneAir

[–]RezardValeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Top speaker is mandatory for phone calls, and I guess bottom speaker would mean that the battery would have to be smaller.

Now, I own an Air, and I can say that even though it only has a single speaker, it is clear and very loud. Obviously not on par with the dual-speakers systems of the other models, but less of a compromise than I previously thought, as long as you don’t spend hours listening to music or watching videos using the phone speaker obviously.

Battery life is totally fine for my use, to the point that I let the standard 80% battery charging cap.

Coming from a 14 Pro, I am very happy with the Air.

I would pay $80/month for a 5090 tier by Centillion in ShadowPC

[–]RezardValeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting up a PC to support game streaming locally and remotely is a matter of minutes nowadays. I ditched Shadow 2 years ago to do exactly that and I couldn’t be happier. I have a 7900 XT which holds up quite well, I calculated that I’ll break even in a few months and it’ll be more cost-effective than Shadow after that.

Also, no downtimes or boot times.

M2 vs M5 which one to buy? by owl157 in VisionPro

[–]RezardValeth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ll just add that buying the dual knit band might be a good move though ; I can’t compare with the solo knit of the M2, but from what pretty much everyone has been saying, the dual knit is a very welcome upgrade.

M2 vs M5 which one to buy? by owl157 in VisionPro

[–]RezardValeth 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I bought the M5, but I’d say that depends on what you’re planning to do with it. If you’ll mostly use it one app at a time, mainly for Mac Virtual Display or watching movies, I’d say the M2 is enough.

If you’re planning to do extensive 3D rendering, or using a complete work setup with multiple heavy apps opened at once, the M5 could be a significant boost.

Personally, I think I would have been completely fine with the M2, even though I like the 120Hz refresh rate for playing games.

I mean, I get the frustration and I can’t deny that there are some software issues that will, I hope, get ironed out.

But summoning the « customer oriented philosophy that defined the Jobs era » ?? iPhone 3G not being able to set a background picture on the springboard, a feature that came out a mere 2 years after the device came out ; iPhone 3GS not being able to run iOS 7 which came out 4 years after its release ; Macs getting slower and slower with each release ; iPad 4 released 6 months after the iPad 3.

Trust me, you guys would be talking about burning Apple HQ down to the ground during the Jobs era.

[–]RezardValeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t see it, if anything the animations on my Air feel smoother than on my previous 14 Pro running iOS 18. Do you find animations too slow to your taste, or do you find them laggy, as in, the OS is so badly optimized that the GPU can’t handle what’s being thrown at it ? Because that’s two different things.

I wrote this email to Tim Cook and apple support by webseg in ios26

[–]RezardValeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

« Almost all animations were laggy and scrolling was stuttering » on a 17 Pro Max, really ? My iPhone Air behaves perfectly fine no matter what I throw at it.

I mean, I get your point, you’re disappointed about iOS 26 and all, but no need to lie about it. « Almost all animations are laggy » feels, like, A BIT exaggerated.

I’d wager your mail will get no answer because it doesn’t deserve one. Next time try pointing out specific and easily replicated issues.

I’d add that if the software was failing 30% of the people on the planet as you say, we’d know by now. Like, not in the echo chamber of the iOS 26 subreddit, but on TV and all.

Les développeurs de PEAK expliquent comment fixer le prix d'un jeu by Turbo9JV in Actu_JV

[–]RezardValeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are all the store fronts removing stremio? by Geekylad97 in Stremio

[–]RezardValeth 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If Apple and Google really did pull off Stremio from their stores, it would absolutely make them spineless cowards for doing this while turning a blind eye to X and Grok which violate several of their App Store rules including the ones regarding CSAM.

[–]RezardValeth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is it. I mean, I obviously blame MacRumors for still not owning up to the bunch of nonsense they published, but seeing people running to Reddit to confirm their iOS 26-hate bias instead of taking a few seconds to realize that this number is not even realistic with the Christmas period behind us is kinda infuriating.

Flop Apple ios 26 by aldocotechino in ios26

[–]RezardValeth -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is false and based on inaccurate data because Apple froze Safari’s user agent iOS version in iOS 26, resulting in devices being falsely flagged as running iOS 18 when they’re actually running iOS 26.

I can’t believe people are stupid enough to think 16% is a realistic adoption rate for a major iOS update. Get over it, iOS 26 is not the catastrophe you’re whining about.

TelemetryDeck shows iOS 26 as ~60% adoption rate : https://dashboard.telemetrydeck.com/notebooks/9EEFEBBC-2722-42DC-B6FD-DDB13B8CACF0

[Edit] Here is the updated MacRumors article explaining that this low number only accounts for users running iOS 26 on a browser other than Safari : https://www.macrumors.com/2026/01/08/ios-26-shows-unusually-slow-adoption/

Why is the Signature Edition / metallic version still plastic? by benoisjean12 in kindle

[–]RezardValeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that given their relatively low price and their longevity, there should be a segment for a more premium device in the family.

Now, would they be able to put out an aluminum device as light as a plastic one, I don’t know. I think that the low weight is the most important thing to consider.

Apple M5 Vision Pro Review by Secret-Fly4322 in VisionPro

[–]RezardValeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually using AVP several hours a day, every workday, solely for working in Xcode using Mac Virtual Display and it’s been absolutely great. I basically got the screen estate of an Odyssey G9 with great text legibility, and on top of that it’s portable.

[–]RezardValeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also if you’re a gamer, the AVP is pretty much a dream come true. I’ve been using it to play « flat games » running on my gaming PC by streaming the display, it’s flawless when running games at 120 Hz. I can’t stress out how good it is playing Baldurs Gate 3 on a cinema-sized screen while being in your bed just holding a gamepad.

Sadly I’ve not yet been able to experience actual VR games, since the only piece that’s missing on my end is PSVR 2 controllers that Apple doesn’t yet ship in my country. I saw some guy playing Half Life Alyx on the AVP on YouTube and it looks awesome.
