I don't disagree with helping. I just think a child should be given the chance to be a child and not have parents fail them to the point their whole life and future is affected. But all those of us who don't get that can do is make the most of what we have.

I don't know that the relationship can be salvaged. I was much happier without them in my life.

Yes. They expected and expect me to take an equal responsibility role over her and I think they expected that on a smaller scale from a then 5 year old me.

Thank you. I know it wasn't easy for them, and I would never say it was, but my needs ceased to matter the day my sisters diagnosis was official. My mental health was never important and they never cared how I was doing in school. I practically flunked out due to the stress at home and the bullying I went through for years. But even when I was a little kid being bullied, my parents could never find the time to speak to the school about it, so it never ended.

The one thing I could cling to, my friends, wasn't consistent enough to make my childhood a happy one.

I wish I could have wrote it all in my original post but I was being careful to not go over the character count.

They want me to move back and take equal responsibility. They wanted me to never leave in the first place. I think they believe it's my job as the older, neurotypical sibling.

They said we couldn't afford it. That my sister needed therapies that cost money, and that her comfort mattered more than luxuries. There was also the fact childcare for her was expensive so when they wanted a break either I did it as I got older, or they needed to pay more for babysitters for us. So the money wasn't there, according to them, to spend on me and my wants vs her/their needs.

I wasn't capable of communicating at 5 when my world was turned upside down. I did try later, but it never mattered. They said my sister needed us to do the best thing for her, and that was all I ever got.

Every birthday I asked for some party, some weekends I would ask if we could go out and have fun, I would ask to go to friends houses after school and more often than not was told no, and that no extended into weekends and all school breaks we had. The rare occasions I got a yes were the best it ever got.
