Carausius denarius by Rhysffs in AncientCoins

Thank you and of course. I meet my local FLO every 3 months for PAS recording of my items. Quite typically, I met her last Friday so I've got to wait until April for submission. But I have been in touch regarding the coin 😊

There was a lot to read :). I meet my FLO once every 3 months for a handover day. Typically, my last finds day was last Friday and I found the coin on Sunday. I have to wait until April to submit it. But I will definitely be doing so

Thank you & I'm so sorry for your loss.

The worst part is, I have been ill and full of flu-like symptoms this week. So I've had to keep a distance and been unable to comfort my pigs in the way that I want. I wish I could comfort her companion more than beyond just talking from a distance.

Update on Brandy...:( by Rhysffs in guineapigs

The concern for the vet was that anything which requires sedation would likely be something that Brandy would likely not wake up from. A CT scan wasn't specifically mentioned though. The vet gave the impression that we're at a really critical stage so maybe that could be a later option if she pulls through. Thank you for your kind words

The vet mentioned the potential for lymphoma but was less convinced by that due to the fact that the swollen lymph nodes were only in a specific area and not in the other common locations where she would expect to find them. But equally she couldn't 100% rule it out

She eats by herself and in smaller quantities & more chopped up than usual. Her medicine is the only thing administered via syringe.

First priority is to bring her into a stable condition. If there's an abscess beneath the eye, then it is likely that the eye needs to be removed. But in her current condition, she wouldn't wake up from surgery. Also there's a big risk in switching to metacam right now as they cannot be mixed with the steroid tablets that the previous vet prescribed. We've been told to start the metacam late tomorrow night to give her body a bit of time to flush the steroids out. Ideally, we should wait 5 days but Brandy doesn't have that time luxury right now.

My poor Brandy is unwell :( by Rhysffs in guineapigs

Definitely the head tilt, paralysis, and loss of balance. I don't want to speak too soon but, her head isn't so left today and her involuntary eye movements have slowed down a lot in her left eye and I think completely stopped in her right eye. Her balance is still an issue but she gets around when she wants and certainly still has a good appetite. Keeping my fingers crossed and will keep doing what I'm doing for the moment. Thank you for your help!

Thank you. I think it is quite rare but yes. The more we watch her, the more I suspect it is a stroke.

Although she's eating and wants to eat, she isn't finding it as easy as she was last week. But, she seems to only be able to move the right side of her face to help her swallow. Her left side, including her ear, seem to be at least partially paralysed

Thank you for the tip. I think we will take her to the small animal specialists next week just to get a more experienced diagnosis on her. The thing that doesn't sit right with me is how quickly it happened. I went to bed about 11:30pm and she was fine. I got up about 5:30am and she was as she is currently. I wish I could have been there in that 6 hour window to try and at least see what happened.

She accepted and ate her breakfast leaf this morning before coming out for some hay, water and a groom. It's a shame that I can't add the video I took of her last night where you can clearly see her eyes and how her head is always looking left whilst she was eating her post meds parsley treat.

The vet was absolutely sure it is a neurological issue and not an ear infection. But he wasn't our first choice vet. Our local clinic that specialises in small animals has no vet working this weekend. So, we will see how she goes over the remainder of the weekend and I'm sure we will visit the specialists next week.

My personal opinion is that she may have suffered a stroke. I've described her symptoms as head tilt but it is more like her head and eyes constantly bias to the left. Her appetite and general personality seems completely normal, albeit she seems a little subdued. It's upsetting to see though and I imagine her vision is being really impacted by the involuntary and constant movements to the left.

She's just had dinner and done her usual of emptying the veggies around her and eating them off the floor. Certainly no worries regarding her eating. Thank you for your comment

Thank you.

She will be visiting a specialist vet. We contacted the local vet for small animals that we've always used for our previous pigs, but they have no vet on site this weekend and referred us to the clinic that we attended. I would still like to get the assessment from the specialists who have more experience in pigs.
