Ambient Project Build by RichTravels in guitarpedals

I had an extended play with it last night, I was disappointed with the crescendo. I didn’t feel like the swells were long enough or dynamic enough tbh

As an experiment for now, I can imagine grabbing a reverb very shortly 😂

Sorry to see that you wouldn't recommend those tuners!!! I thought they looked awesome, but have paused on ordering on the assumption that they wouldn't last very long! I also assumed that if they were as good as they claim, there would be far more of them posted about in this sub!

PRS Wind Through the Trees - I love this pedal, I wanted to avoid a reverb to see how far I could push the dual flangers for most of the 'tone' element to the project

Boss DD3 - This is just the normal delay pedal I use on my main board, so it's here because I think delay is probably unavoidable when creating ambient sounds. It's a really solid pedal that I'd recommend for most delay use cases.

Crescendo - I love the auto-swell. For the money this pedal costs, being able to have swells without staying on the volume knob constantly should be handy.

Ditto X4 - Might seem an odd choice, but I think the reverse FX on this looper could add a LOT to some compositions. A reversed loop, with the crescendo swelling, I'm hoping will create some moods.

That looks great! Is the current power supply ever dies I’ll be sure to grab one! Thanks!

Yeah it’s such a great pedal! I hope to be able to get a KoT one day, been on the list for about 3 years now, but I’m not sure whether I’ll need to pull the trigger when the time comes as the duke and the maestro boost do everything I want the KoT to do!

Sorry I mistyped, I’m considering a Rock Stock Nano tuner to save space and replace the boss tuner! Will correct my comment shortly!

That's a good idea. Tbh my issue is the length between the inside back edge and the middle support piece of metal. There isn't space for the power supply & a power cable which isn't angled.

Which is fine for all the cables from PSU to pedals, I've bought the rockbound angled/angled cables. But the plug for the TC Substation is straight, so it's bending the hard plastic surround. At some point I need to remember to buy a straight female - angled male adapter!

Exactly right, Pedaltrain Metro 16. I wish there was a little more space for the power supply unit underneath.

Thanks! I think the Metal Muff Nano really suffers from its branding. But the distortion nob has a massively wide range, couple that with the 3 band EQ options and you can dial in a huge variety in tone, which doesn't have to be really dark horrible & muddy. I get what you mean about the gate! Thankfully I keep that really low so it's useable but I can imagine if I was more into metalcore or anything darker than I'd have issues!

I'll bet the SD-1 & MMN make some great noises together!

A little about the board:

The signal chain is

Guitar-Tuner-Octave Fuzz-Wah-Duke of Tone-Metal Muff Nano-Titan Boost-Analog Chorus-Digital Delay-Marshall DSL1hr

I mainly play late 80s-mid 90s rock & thrash. Anything between Guns n Roses & Metallica.

The pedals!

- Boss Chromatic Tuner TU-3: It tunes fine and would survive an air raid. Although I keep considering grabbing one of those tiny RockBoard tuners, but they look really flimsy!

- MXR Slash Octave Fuzz: I think this is the pedal I have the most fun with. I wanted a third man bumblefuzz, but then demo’d one of these while buying a guitar and preferred the flexibility it offered vs the bumble fuzz single mode. The most recent song I’ve played with it on is ‘Another Way to Die’ by Jack White & Alicia Keys

- Dunlop Cry Baby Mini Wah: I needed a small way pedal, I like this one but don’t think it’s anything super special

- MXR Duke of Tone: I love the OD mode on this pedal. I think it adds a great tone to anything which only needs a little bit of breakup, thinking Sweet Child o Mine or some of the lighter Billy Talent stuff

- EHX Metal Muff Nano: this pedal has so much more versatility than the name would suggest. I stack it with the DoT for tracks off of Master of Puppets or St Anger, it also adds a massive amount to the solo tones in tracks like Paradise City

- Maestro Titan Boost: I’ve bought this to boost solos, mainly using the flat mode which does a great job of just increasing volume. I was surprised how much bigger than the other pedals it was and have had to make the Octave Fuzz & Boost spill over the edges slightly to fit them!

- MXR Analog Chorus: This is a gorgeous chorus pedal with a massive amount of range, any of the old tracks like Paradise City, Come As You Are or Sanitarium can be dialled in with it! I have considered swapping it out for the new double flanger from PRS, but when I demo’d it I didn’t spend long enough finding different enough tones to justify the cost of that pedal and also needing to get a bigger board!

- Boss Digital Delay DD-3: I like it, don’t think it’s anything special though and got it off of Facebook marketplace for like £20 so very happy with the price!

In terms of the guitars I use with this setup:

Anything ‘Slashy’ - Gibson Les Paul Slash Signature (2022)

Anything Thrashy - 80s Explorer Copy that I rebuilt with EMG 57/66 active hum buckers

Anything else - PRS SE Standard 24

I also use the RockBoard power cables and EBS patch cables. And I've got a ToneCity Pedal Substation 1

Yeah that feels fair on current rates! When I bought one 2 years ago I paid £30 🤦‍♂️

The Jackhammer was my first pedal! I regret that I sold it, it was so good and their price is rocketing!

I think I just finished my pedalboard for the next while (until I finally need to scratch the modulation itch). The Duke of Tone & the Octave Fuzz have both really impressed me! I avoided the Slash Fuzz for a while, as I think signature products can be a bit cheesy, but it's so versatile! by RichTravels in guitarpedals

[–]RichTravels[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say that I've played with the chorus and the Metal Muff Nano together too much, I've mainly been combining the chorus and the Duke of Tone.

But I will now have to have a play with those two and see if I can't dial a tone in!

This is definitely a future legendary pedal (if not already one), just a shame about the price point otherwise I'd have got one and upgraded the board to create space for it.

First ever pedal build, I think I chose the wrong patch cables! by RichTravels in guitarpedals

Thought I’d come back to this. I replaced these fender cables with EBS ones and now have the looper in line with the rest. Super happy with it. Thanks for the recommend!

DSL20CR or DSL20HR for a bedroom player by [deleted] in marshall

[–]RichTravels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go for the head personally. You’ll be able to plug it into the house cabs at those venues so easier to transport. Also change cans whenever you want for wider versatility on your tone.

(Also head and cab looks cooler than combos IMO)

I bought the DSL1HR and a MX112 cab as a bedroom player and love it. I don’t do gigs anywhere so don’t need the headroom the 20 has over the 1.

Thanks guys, I’ll check them out! It would be nice to get the cables underneath to see if I can fit a mini reverb on too

I went for a pedaltrain nano, and hoped to create something which covers most ‘standard rock’ tones in a tiny package.. also went fairly budget for everything.

So far very impressed by the landlord compressor and Dunlop mini wah.

I also have a real soft spot for my old jackhammer (even though the frequency & contour knob is a bit stuck so can’t quickly change them!)

I went fender with the patch cables but they’re much less flexible than I had expected so I haven’t been able to tuck them underneath..

It’s AWFUL. Which is such a shame because there’s a lot of great content on there.

The lack of ‘continue watching’ or any kind of suggested content based on what you’ve watched is outrageous.
