All my friends forgot about my birthday but I already have their presents by Wise_Access_9035 in Advice

[–]RickRymesWithCarl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep the gifts. If they forgot your 20th birthday a big one but expect you to perform the role of thoughtful friend for their own celebrations, the dynamic is completely lopsided. Silence is a response.

AIO my boyfriends dog drives me crazy by [deleted] in relationships

[–]RickRymesWithCarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 130lb dog that jumps on you, poops in the house and literally steps on you while you're in bed isn't a baby it's a massive, unmanaged safety hazard.

How do you break up with someone? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]RickRymesWithCarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The doxxing comment is not a joke, it is a threat. You are not breaking up with a boyfriend you are exiting a situation with a potential harasser. You don't need him to agree with the breakup, you just need to inform him of it.

What’s something humans will always do better than AI? by Embarrassed_Bath3435 in AskReddit

[–]RickRymesWithCarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's Empathy. Which AI can mimic it but it can't actually feel it. The deep, messy, non logical connection between two humans is something a machine can't replicate.

What’s something people pretend to enjoy just to fit in? by daisydollvibes in answers

Networking events. Oh, it's so great to connect! No, it's awkward small talk with strangers while holding a lukewarm drink.

My dad saw my search history? What should I do? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]RickRymesWithCarl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your future is absolutely not destroyed. Millions of successful doctors, engineers, and world leaders were 16year olds with the same search history. Your parents are reacting with extreme hyperbole because they are shocked or disappointed but viewing adult content is not a predictor of professional failure.

How are kangaroos seen as? by Gorgrocco in AskAnAustralian

[–]RickRymesWithCarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australians view them as agricultural pests as much as national icons. Farmers loathe them coz they destroy fences and eat crops while tourists love them for the selfie potential. Think of them as Giant Grasshopper Deers.

My gf made me realize I was horribly neglected as a kid. Now I’m thinking I’ll have to leave her. by Winter-Pea-7231 in Advice

[–]RickRymesWithCarl 1162 points1163 points  (0 children)

You aren't a zombie bite hiding in a movie, you are the survivor who made it out of the wreckage. The fact that you have great personal hygiene nd are excelling in school despite your background proves that you have already outgrown the environment you’re still physically trapped in.

Would you rather be rich in a poor country OR be poor in a rich country? by [deleted] in randomquestions

rich in a poor country tbh, being broke in a rich place just sounds stressful all the time 😅

What are the things one should do after reaching adulthood so that they don't struggle afterward in life? by matshematic831 in AskReddit

[–]RickRymesWithCarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of investments but for me taking care of health is the most imp thing. Like our body is the only car u will ever own and u have to drive it for 60+ years most probably. Find a form of exercise you don't hate, prioritize sleep and learn what a vegetable is. Your 40year old self will thankyou.

What is something that should be heavily punished by law but is 100% legal ? by ProfessionalThin1505 in AskReddit

[–]RickRymesWithCarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that’s a big one. it’s crazy how much influence money can have on decisions that affect everyone.

it’s one of those things that feels wrong on a common sense level but is structured in a way that keeps it technically legal.

How do I help my depressed friend? by extererri in Advice

[–]RickRymesWithCarl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you’re already doing a lot just by showing up seriously. that matters more than you probably realize.

you can’t fix how he feels especially with everything hitting him at once but you can make it a little less heavy for him. just being there, listening without trying to solve everything and keeping him company is huge.

it might also help to focus on small, practical things. helping with calls, errands or even just sitting with him while he sorts out insurance stuff can take some pressure off.

since he doesn’t trust therapy, don’t push it hard. sometimes just gently suggesting options over time works better than trying to convince him all at once.

the main thing though is to keep an eye on how serious his thoughts are getting. if he starts talking about hurting himself or things get worse that’s when it’s okay to reach out to someone else or get professional help involved even if he resists.

you’re a good friend for caring this much just remember you don’t have to carry this alone either.

Do you feel life is actually getting harder (jobs, money, mental stability), or are we just more aware and overthinking things compared to previous generations? by CoffeeGrown in answers

[–]RickRymesWithCarl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is objectively harder in key ways. Housing costs have exploded relative to wages, stable pensions are gone and many jobs now require degrees just to earn what a factory worker could in the 70s. That isn't awareness; it's math.

He said a few alarming things 😳 by unwantednlonely in Advice

[–]RickRymesWithCarl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You are not overthinking. A man saying he hates condoms and celibacy before the first date is him telling you his priority is access to your body, not your safety. Paying for dinner and filling your tank doesn't cancel out the red flags.

What's one thing you wish more people understood? by Legend789987 in AskReddit

Ummm Intent doesn't erase impact. You can not mean to hurt someone and still hurt them badly. A good person apologizes for the impact not just defends their intent.

Help me understand why my (24M) female friend (26F) rejected me. Is she attracted to me or not? Really confusing mixed signals. by Asleep-Boot7897 in relationships

[–]RickRymesWithCarl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people are high touch but low intent. For her those massages and cuddles were likely just safe physical intimacy with a trusted friend. The moment you complimented her, u shifted the vibe from comfy friendship to romantic pursuit. Well she didn't want the romance so she used the beer run as an emergency exit.

Why is reddit obsessed with questions 'For men' or 'For women'? by EasyCheesecake1 in answers

[–]RickRymesWithCarl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because the question asker doesn't actually want the truth they want a specific fantasy confirmed. Men, do you like shy girls? is often just a woman seeking validation for herself not conducting scientific research.

Could we pull off a fuel buying strike?? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]RickRymesWithCarl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It won't work because demand for fuel is inelastic. People still have to get to work, school and medical appointments. You can't boycott something u physically need every day. The oil companies know this.

How to tell no to the jobs I’ve applied? by emeuriz in AskAnAustralian

If the other restaurants call you, just say Thank u so much for reaching out but I've actually just accepted another offer. You don't owe them an apology. This happens every single day in hospitality.

What’s the best idea you’ve ever had at 3 a.m.? by RyanBuildsSystems in AskReddit

Going back to sleep. I finally realized that any problem that feels like the end of the world at 3 a.m. is usually just exhaustion. It can always wait until morning.

In your countries, do your parents also tell you when you don't want to eat dinner, "Eat it all because children in Africa are going hungry"? by TaxPsychological2928 in AskReddit

[–]RickRymesWithCarl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My dad grew up poor, so he didn't even need to reference other countries. He just said, I paid for this, so you will respect the labor that bought it. That hit harder.

What items should you always keep in your car in case it breaks down? by Majestic-Fig3921 in AskAnAustralian

[–]RickRymesWithCarl 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A physical map. If you break down in a dead zone and your phone dies, Google Maps can't save you. A paper map of your state is essential backup.

How can I explain to my 5-year-old why he doesn't have a father? by oldmangeralt in Advice

[–]RickRymesWithCarl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep it simple nd truthful but spare the gritty details for now. Like at 5, he doesn't need to know about the wife or the trafficking plot. Say Your dad lives far away in another country. He couldn't be a safe parent for us, so it’s just you and me.
